Purpose of this page

Why was this content removed from the Miley Cyrus article? I do not see any purpose served by separating out this particular information.--NrDg 19:14, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

No justification given for split so merged back into main article. --NrDg 22:50, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

RIAA certification info on Billboard 200 chart

This was asked on my page about the Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus album but I think an explanation is in order here as well:

I was just wondering. You mentioned that Billboard.com cites the article as being certified 3x platinum with the source pointing here. However, the album has a '2' next to the triangle, indicating that it is 2x platinum. Unless I'm missing something, could you please verify where you got the info on 3x platinum? Dh993 02:15, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Hover your mouse over the triangle icon for an explanation. For platinum you just see the triangle. The number after the triangle is the ADDITIONAL platinums past the first. That means platinum is just the triangle. A triangle with a 1 is double platinum, a triangle with a 2 is triple platinum. It took me a bit to figure out what was going on. I saw in a web article that Miley was celebrating the latest album going triple platinum, so looked into this. Also sales of 1.5 million double albums counts as 3 million units for RIAA certification purposes so it all checks out as triple platinum. --NrDg 02:26, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

RIAA certification

I replaced the cite for RIAA certification data reference with a direct url to the RIAA certification database as I think this data has less chance of being misinterpreted. I changed RIAA certification data to exactly match what the certification database said with no interpretation of meaning. RIAA Certification Database. I think the description in the Billboard table is a Billboard misinterpretation of what the RIAA data means so went right to the definitive source. --NrDg 20:40, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Keep It This Way

Keep "Start All Over" AFTER "Ready, Set, Don't Go" because "Ready, Set, Don't Go" was released about 2 months before "Start All Over". Tcatron565 (talk) 22:56, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Keep It This Way Also

keep the singles seperated cause Hannah Montana 2 and Meet Miley Cyrus are two different Albums, they maybe merged together in one article but THEY ARE TWO SEPERATE ALUM ONES A SOUNDTRACK AND ONES HER DEBUT SOLO ALBUM. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ewigneeo818 (talkcontribs) 03:09, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

No they are not. Show me where I can buy disk2 of the album without buying disk1. The official album names are what must be in these articles. We are not an arm of Disney marketing. We use the official album name that matches what you can buy in the store, what Billboard reports sales numbers on and what RIAA issues gold and platinum certifications against. --NrDg 03:16, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Check RIAA Certification Database for the official names that have got triple platinum. Check the albums they have certified. --NrDg 03:22, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
They are considered as two different albums except for when charting and certificating. The reason is to keep from confusing the public. In this articel, they should be kept separate. Think about this. "See You Again" is by Miley Cyrus, not Hannah Montana. "Nobody's Perfect" is by Hannah Montana, not Miley Cyrus. One is a soundtrack, while one is debut album. They are basically two different albums sold together. Just like finding two DVDs in one packet. However, articles should keep them together except for when listen them on singles. "See You Again" is from the Meet Miley Cyrus album, and not the Hannah Montana 2 part of the album. It's like Back to Basics from Christina Aguilera. "Candyman" is from the second CD, however, they are the same CD. For this, they are two different artists with two different types of music. Keep them separate when listing what album the singles came from. Tcatron565 (talk) 21:21, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
I strongly disagree. It is NOT considered 2 albums by anyone except Disney marketing trying to create an illusion to push Miley Cyrus's career. RIAA is official and considers it 1 album. Soundscan and Billboard track it as one album. Certifications are against this one album. It is one album with two disks and that is how it is sold in the store. The wiki article must reflect the reality of the situation. It is confusing in the article to give a name to something that does not really exist. There is no album that you can buy called "Meet Miley Cyrus" and it should not be portrayed as such in the article. What I would find acceptable is to list the entry as "Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus (Disk 2 Meet Miley Cyrus)" as is listed in the album article. --NrDg 21:50, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
That is way too long. Do NOT do that. That's worse than the other two combined. They are two different albums packaged and sold as one. And besides it's disc, not disk. The album is called Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus. However, they are two different CDs. Why is that so hard to get? They are two albums sold in one package. They are by two different artists and should be kept separate when listing the singles. Billboard and RIAA count them as one because that's the only way you can buy it. However, you can take one out and keep it while re-selling the other one. You can even go onto iTunes and only get the Meet Miley Cyrus part and not the Hannah Montana 2 part. Tcatron565 (talk) 23:10, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Or we could list it as Disc 1: Hannah Montana 2 or Disc 2: Meet Miley Cyrus. It's shorter, and gets point out without harming anyone. Tcatron565 (talk) 23:12, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually it is not available as separate albums on iTunes - I checked. You buy the dual album and get 20 tracks for $15 or buy individual tracks. RIAA lists the artist on the album as "CYRUS, MILEY AS HANNAH MONTANA" so she basically gets official artist credit for all of the album, the real artist gets credit, not the role. I perfectly understand how Disney is marketing this album - that is not what is actually being sold and measured. I disagree with the article reflecting Disney marketing propaganda. I have the album, I see how the two discs are labeled and that all it is - labels on the separate discs of a two disc album. I also have the first album with two items, one labeled Audio CD and the other Music Video DVD. This is no different, just labels. If you buy "See You Again" from iTunes the info for the song says "Hannah Montana 2 - Meet Miley Cyrus" as the album it is from. An album called "Meet Miley Cyrus" does not officially exist. The article must reflect the reality of the situation.
As to how to handle the labeling in the article (sorry for the typo in my attempt to compromise), I am open to anything that does not look like there is a separate album called "Meet Miley Cyrus". Disc 2: Meet Miley Cyrus does that but the table entry is looking for an album name. Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus (Disc 2) would work for me, though and communicate which part of the album the song is on if you think the full label is too long. I thought the second line with the label on was esthetically OK, though, so still prefer that. Sometimes on a compromise, nobody gets what they really want. --NrDg 23:54, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Breakout is not her official debut album...if it was then what was Meet Miley Cyrus? A soundtrack? of her songs? that is her debut album that used a part of Hannah Montana as a stepping stone, and Breakout is her sophomore album.

Hot Country Songs

Can editors removed the chart US Country in Miley Cyrus discography#As Miley Cyrus? Only The Climb chart on US Country, and it did not enter top 40 hits.Dennissell (talk) 12:58, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

US Adult Contemporary

This page is due to inform about Miley Cyrus' peaks in different countries. US has already 3 columns! (Hot 100, Pop 100 & Hot Country). I don't think 3 columns for 1 country are necessary, I would definetely remove Pop & Country. But adding US AC?? Is it a joke? It's as irrelevant as adding Rhythm Top 40 or Hot Ringmasters. It's useless and needless. Plus, only one song has charted in that category, so it shall be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nympho wiki (talkcontribs) 18:43, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

It doesn't matter how many US charts there are. Also, if you paid attention, she's charted twice on the AC charts. "The Climb" and "Just Stand Up" have charted on the AC charts. Leave the chart on the table. EnDaLeCoMpLeX (talk) 21:37, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Guest Singles

Actually, I think Guest singles should merged into Singles - As Miley Cyrus. Dennissell (talk) 09:08, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

US or CAN Country columns

We should not be including any chart-positions other than those that are coming from official single/album charts unless the albums/songs fail to enter the main charts. In the case of Cyrus; however, the tables which include US or CAN Country columns within, all indicate chart-positions which are coming from main charts. Therefore, I am going to remove all those redundant chart-columns. Please refer to Wikipedia:Record charts for more information. --Harout72 (talk) 01:10, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

They are official charts, and please check WP:charts AND Wikipedia talk:Record charts/U.S. Billboard chart inclusion. Dennissell (talk) 17:02, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Which part of this statement (Billboard component charts should not be used in the tables, unless the song fails to enter the main chart, but appears on an airplay or sales chart.) don't you understand within WP:charts? I never said country charts are unofficial, I said their use is redundant within the article of Miley Cyrus discography since the article already contains positions coming from the main chart, Billboard Hot 100. And one more thing, if you are going to revert my edits, make sure your reversion does not remove my recently provided sources, some of which are sources for single chart-position verification purposes.--Harout72 (talk) 02:49, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I will add back Pop 100 because it is also a main chart in United States. Dennissell (talk) 05:00, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
The only main charts in The States are Billboard Hot 100 (for single) and Billboard 200 (for albums). We should keep Pop 100 only when singles do not enter the main chart (Hot 100); in other words, when only available positions that we have are from Pop 100.--Harout72 (talk) 05:12, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
But..... Actualy, Pop 100 is also main chart. Dennissell (talk) 16:05, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

new album

There'll be a new album As she said on twitter, she was recording an EP and then Party in the USA was leaked from Wal Mart and the information that it was from the album called "Voyage to India" not sure it's an album or EP or Voyage to India is the official title or the current cover on Universal page is official but there'll be a new album and release on August 31 only at Wal Mart I think we should add it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.186.217.17 (talk) 13:05, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

USA no. 1 Albums

Her No.1 album Jacob Gourgis sold 640million There is constant editing between the number of albums she has. And there are FOUR. I do understand that not every track in the soundtracks are hers, but that doesn't seem like a reasonn enough. Hannah Montana and Hannah Montana: The Movie are HER ALBUMS. Let's look at the facts: the majority of the tracks on the album are hers, she's the star of the franchise, her alter ego's name is in the album title, fans bought the album for her not The Click Five, B5, Everlife, Rascal Flatts or Taylor Swift... they bought it for her. And that wasn't enough, see this citation: [1]. It's 100% reliable, Disney Channel clearly states in this press release that she is the youngest artist with FOUR no. 1 albums. So, I am going to change the list of no. 1's. --Ipodnano05 (talk) 23:20, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately the source is a Disney primary source press release and as such can be considered self-serving. What does Billboard say? We shouldn't be making any determination as to would counts as an album attributed to her, we should just report and reference an official determination. --NrDg 22:54, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
We only need to count the albums and soundtracks where every song was by her that have reached number one. So far, that would be Meet Miley Cyrus and Breakout. Why the fans bought the albums is irrelevant. If you want to count that as one for Miley, you'd have to count it as one for Jesse McCartney, Steve Rushton, etc. Pokerdance (talk/contribs) 23:23, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
I don't think so, I have a reliable third party source. It's the Recording Industry Association of America saying Hannah Montana: The Movie is her album. See Miley's Metallic May. --Ipodnano05 (talk) 00:20, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Also see RIAA certifications for artist Miley Cyrus which shows where RIAA gives her album artist credit. Looks like she didn't get album artist credit for Hannah Montana (soundtrack) but did for the other three albums.
So, what do we do with that contradictory information? It does state that Miley did get credit for the original soundtrack... But as far as the film's soundtrack it says two things. Personally, I think a news article published by them means more than the listing; it is more elaborate. --Ipodnano05 (talk) 01:20, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
The listings are from the official RIAA certification database and are, by definition, correct as RIAA is the primary source of information for certification. For comparison see RIAA certs for Hannah Montana in album name. She gets artist credit for only 3 albums and "Various" gets artist credit for the first soundtrack. --NrDg 01:28, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Billboard gives Miley Cyrus credit for 2 number one albums Billboard album chart history for Miley Cyrus. For the purposes of answering the question "number of USA Billboard no. 1 Albums". Billboard only counts 2. --NrDg 01:39, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
O.K. Fine, I guess that she is featured in four no. 1 albums, but owns two no. 1's to herself, though I don't agree because those albums are her projects and are under the franchise of which she is the star of. --Ipodnano05 (talk) 02:26, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
I've removed the number one album option anyway, because (1) you'd have to make an option for every other country she's reached number one in, and (2) extra options are only supposed to be used sparingly (ex: something important, like remix albums). Split of content to Hannah Montana discography

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
Concensus is to split - left open is how the page will be set up

  • Oppose I strongly disagree with the creation of a discography article for a fictional character. A real person performed the songs. There is no reason that the existing Miley Cyrus discography article can't serve the purpose of showing all Miley Cyrus's creative output as a singer either as herself or performing as a fictional creation. --NrDg 04:42, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
(Would withdraw opposition with some changes. See below) --NrDg 05:44, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Support. Regardless of her state as a fictional character, numerous albums and singles credited to her have charted on several notable charts. And it's completely unnecessary to combine two personas on one page, that just leads to confusion and making Miley's discography page much larger than it needs to be. Pokerdance (talk/contribs) 04:45, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Support I do think that Hannah Montana should obtain her own discography. All the confusion between the number one albums and if Meet Miley Cyrus is an actual CD can be avoided if there was such an article. Montana has 18 chart entries in the Hot 100, five on Bubbling Under Hot 100, and one extra in Canada. Cyrus's page is way too long with several sections saying "singles", "other charted songs" and "as Hannah Montana" , as a result of that it looks very messy. Plus, she's already credited as Hannah Montana for infoboxes in albums, and tours. I do see the reasons for not creating a discography because she is a fictional character, but then again there is a High School Musical discography. There is not really a band called "High School Musical", it's a group of actors/singers that made songs for a movie (in this case it is a television series). Plus, in Billboard charts it is not said Cyrus sings "He Could Be the One" or "The Best of Both Worlds", it says "Hannah Montana" does; if she has her own artist page in there, she should here also. My opinion is that Montana should get her own discography or otherwise this page needs to be revamped. --Ipodnano05 (talk) 05:09, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Comment Undecided on creating a separate discography page; I think creating a page for a fictional character would lend itself to confusion, but the article does look messy and confusing as it is. Wouldn't it be simpler to add a new column in which HM songs were noted as "credited as Hannah Montana"? Liquidluck (talk) 00:04, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Comment: That's the problem, the Montana character already has a great deal of songs and albums credited to her. Not every one is listed in this article right now, but if we were to try to fit them all in here, it would make Miley's discography page much, much larger and more cluttered than it should be. Pokerdance (talk/contribs) 01:57, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Comment Another problem with a split is the dual disk album Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus. This is sold and tracked as a single entity by Billboard and RIAA and can't be artificially broken apart. It is music from the series and music by Cyrus and individual songs are credited as such. --NrDg 05:44, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Comment I would have significantly less of a problem with a discography of music created for the show Hannah Montana than with a discography for the fictional character "Hannah Montana". This is basically what the High School Musical discography article is for the film series. If the split discography article is written with the perspective of music created for the show and Miley Cyrus is properly credited as actual performer in a role I could probably not oppose that. --NrDg 05:44, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
  • That is not the point I was trying to make. The Hannah Montana character is a fiction but there is a TV series called Hannah Montana which has, as one of its creative outputs, music. Focus the article on that and don't make it look like a discography of a fictional artist. The lede currently says
"The discography of Hannah Montana, a character portrayed by American actress and singer Miley Cyrus on the television series of the same name, ...".
Change it and the focus of the whole article to something like
"The discography of music created for the TV Series Hannah Montana performed by Miley Cyrus as the title character ...".
I would not oppose a split to an article created with that focus. Still we are working for consensus so I would like to see what other editors would like to do. My only remaining issue, if consensus is to do the split, is that it be done according to WP:SPLIT and the proper required GFDL attributions are done, which was not done originally. --NrDg 15:04, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
  • But the thing is, not every one of those songs under the Hannah persona were not released to promote or recorded for the TV series. For example, "Rock Star" was released as a single from the concert film. "You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home" was from the movie. Since Cyrus has recorded under the name for several different works, it shouldn't appear to be a list of songs recorded for the show. Pokerdance(talk/contribs) 16:23, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Then lets work on an inclusive phrasing that includes the whole Hannah Montana franchise of TV series, concerts and movies. The Hannah Montana (soundtrack) album is credited to Various Artists, not just the Hannah Montana persona. An exact quote from the Hannah Montana (soundtrack) album cover "Songs from and inspired by the hit TV series". That should be the focus of the discography if expanded to include the concerts and movies. --NrDg 16:45, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
  • I still don't think there's anything wrong with the way it was originally worded. Even though she is a fictional character, she is still much more successful than many actual recording artists. Pokerdance (talk/contribs) 17:55, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
  • A discography for the franchise, I think, would be more suitable. It would include all the songs that were ever released or featured in a Hannah Montana soundtrack. This would even include "Crazier" and "She's No You", but mainly Miley Cyrus songs as Hannah Montana. It should be said which artist sings each song because readers might get confused. Though a Hannah Montana discography makes sense too, if she is credited as Hannah in any chart websites, she should here also. As far as the Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus it can be mentioned that it is a dual disc.--Ipodnano05 (talk) 17:51, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
  • The consensus here seems to be in support of the split, but there doesn't seem to be a clear consensus on how to have the page set up. I'll restore the page to the last edit before it was redirected, and anyone can feel free to go ahead and edit it to how they think it should look like. We'll see how it goes from there. POKERdance talk/contribs 03:35, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Split of singles

I have made edits several times in regards to a split in order to discern the characteristics of "Singles" and "Digital singles." An editor keeps reverting this and called it "ridiculous." In my opinion, it is a good method of contrasting two different subjects. If a FA discographies like the one of Carrie Underwood distinguish this, than so should this one. My point is that I find this better to be separated into that "Digital singles" subsection. --Ipodnano05 (talk) 21:15, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I think merge together would be better, and I think we should divide the Certifications. Open a new Section call "Certifications". Dennissell (talk) 11:50, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Meet Miley Cyrus

I think that Miley Cyrus' album Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus is not a studio album but simply a soundtrack. How can it be a studio album when Meet Miley Cyrus was never released by itself to any country - it is only the second disc of a soundtrack, even though Cyrus did perform the songs as herself. On RIAA, the album is described as Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus and described as such everywhere else. Breakout would be her debut album since it is not attached to a soundtrack, live album, or anything of the sort. I wanted to discuss it because I am soon going to be revamping the article and think this definitely needs to be address before in order to avoid any dispute or edit conflict. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 23:15, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Definitely agree. Decodet (talk) 18:36, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Cool, maybe this would be easier than I thought. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 23:17, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Have any of the songs on the Meet Miley disc been used in Hannah Montana? I wouldn't consider it a studio album, but not a soundtrack either. Perhaps include it in the soundtrack section with a note stating it is considered Cyrus' debut, but is not sold separately? Liqudlucktalk 01:16, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
In the lead it could be explained that it was her first release as herself but just beacause the song were not used in Hannah Montana doesn't mean anything. Songs in many soundtracks have not been used in the actual movie or tv show. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 17:18, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana discography

I think that Miley Cyrus' singles, promotional singles, and song chart positions as Hannah Montana should be transferred into here. That way, Hannah Montana discography can really deal with the franchise' releases instead of the fictional character's. I think this would make a lot more sense than how it is right now because even though a lot of songs were credited to Hannah Montana, Cyrus still sings them. What do you guys think? -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 23:37, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

I think they should be duplicated here- as in, leave them in the HM discography, but also include them here, with a note stating that they are credited to Hannah Montana. Liqudlucktalk 01:18, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
That seems a bit redundant. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 17:19, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
But the fictional character's releases are the franchise's releases. For example, Ice Cream Freeze (Let's Chill) is from the Hannah Montana 3 soundtrack and is a product of the franchise, but under this proposal (I assume) it would be moved here. So if every song that Hannah has charted is moved here, the franchise discography would be woefully small. Liquidlucktalk 20:44, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
The Featured List Ashley Tisdale discography does something similar (the songs are duplicated in High School Musical discography). In my version, though, the songs would be intermingled with Cyrus' other songs, with a Template:Note next to the name of each Hannah song. For example,

Just a mock-up, obviously the facts are wrong. Let me know what you think! Liquidlucktalk 20:44, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh, maybe I didn't explain myself well. The franchises' releases would include anything by Miley or any other participants... like Jesse McCartney, Taylor Swift, or Billy Ray Cyrus. As far as specifying whether it's Miley or Hannah that seems like a good idea for this page. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 19:48, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Album sales

According to American Idol (watch [2]), she has sold 15 million albums worldwide. I think this should be added to the article. American Idol is a trusted source. Josh (talk) 05:52, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Hannah Montana Soundtrack

So I think that the original Hannah Montana Soundtrack that was released in 2006 should be added to this page under soundtracks. Because on the soundtrack Cyrus is credited as herself in the song "I Learned From You" with her dad. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.118.236.25 (talk) 04:05, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

More column/charts?

i just think that on the main discography page it should have more charts than that, since it has charted in more countries than the ones provided, i understand people can view a full chart list on each individual page, but cmon it only has 7 charts, i think it could be expanded to give people an easier way of viewing its chart positions in each country, there are many that could be added, including; Germany, Portugal, Mexico, Ireland, Sweden, Poland, Denmark and many more, I just thought it might make the article look better. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.13.105.96 (talk) 16:02, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Hannah Montana inclusions

I thought we had decided that the Miley and Hannah discographies were to have their own separate pages. The page now includes all of the Hannah material and it looks very convoluted. What should we do??? 101cantbetamed101 (talk) 19:52, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Please leave as is. They should not have two separate discographies, as ultimately it is all Cyrus - the other is just a fictional character. Cyrus gets the final payroll. It's her voice. Hannah Montana doesn't exist. Ashley Tisdale discography merges the two. And, also, since a FLC is currently in the process, reversions really wouldn't help. I made numerous comments on the talk page and Wikipedia talk:Featured lists and no consensus was reached. I then edited it and did not nominate it until 24 hours later to make sure no one really opposed it. I really think this is the best for the page. Maybe what is now Hannah Montana discography can be made into the franchise's discography... including the karoke series albums, singles released from other artists for Hannah soundtracks, and more. Do you agree? -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 21:44, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

stop inflating her sales

in the opening section it states miley has sold over 20 million albums world wide. Under 20 million not 20 million read it properly.! look in the section sales reach then the bit with cyrus and it says "She has moved nearly 20 million albums worldwide" [6] that could mean 17million 18million or 19million but not over 20million as it says on her page! rediculous sales

someone altered my sales I posted. we debated this before as someone changed it contstantly to over 20 million when the document said under 20 million. that got sorted, but I just had to remove the 20.3 someone changed it to and the fact the put she has sold 41 million record since 2012 which is false as that would mean selling 11 million in a year without any major releases and having not ever sold that much when having major releases. It had no referencing which is why I removed it though I am not an official person who monitors this I just like to with certain people who have their sales fabricated. cos at the end of the day it being on here doesn't make it fact. so can someone keep an eye on this too as I only do it monthly. cheers Mikala19 (talk) 14:07, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

We now have information on her singles sales in US from a trustworthy source of Yahoo: http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-june-9-2013-songs-pretty-fly-213129285.html I think we should include this in her Singles certifications since her sales in US are not reflected in certifications. SALES INCORRECT AS OF 8/18/2013

for the thrid time it is under 20 million world wide and 13 million in the states.. someone has stated 50 million world wide with the original source that says under 20 million. there is no evidence to support this and although she has probably sold a good 5 million with we cant stop there is no world wide official sales source to support this therefore can we change it back till there is. she hasn't sold 30 million with we cant stop, no way, otherwise this would be all over the news and a first since the release of itunes. no songs have sold more than 15 million since then, if this were the case she would also be on the list of best selling artists of all time which she is not. can we PLEASE put a lock on the discography so people can no longer inflate her sales. her fans are trying to distort this and if her label did this it WOULD be fraud 82.19.172.215 (talk) 19:24, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Minor sales changes

Once again I find my self changing the sales from 15 million in the US and 50 million worldwide to the amount the source states (13 million in the US and nearly 20 million worldwide) I think the problem previously as I have already states is the release of new material and as I have already stated fans over inflating and inaccurately changing her sales while keeping the same source without having a reliable source to validate their opinion. I have therefore returned it to the correct value as well as changing the wording to say as of 2010 after the release of her last LP cyrus had sold (or something along them lines.) hopefully this will avoid people attempting to work out her current sales (incorrectly) and changing it to what they think she has sold. As I have already said she could not have sold 30 million on her new song as that would be a record for itunes only releases and also all over the news. this is the fourth or fifth time I have changed it and hopefully this will deter people (fans) from inflating and guessing sales.

According to the available certifications there are for we can't stop she has sold: Australia 2× Platinum 140,000, Denmark Gold 15,000, Sweden Platinum 40,000 New Zealand Platinum 15,000 and United Kingdom Silver 200,000. That means she has a certified sales/shipments of 410,000 plus, lets say (being very generous) 250,000 in the rest of the world excluding the US. that is 660,000 and by the looks of it she is close to the gold certification in the US or she has hit it but is holding out for platinum so in reality she has sold around one million to 1.3 million in world wide with this single. But again should not be added to her overall sales until there is a reliable source to confirm this as I may be being to harsh on her sales or too generous. As Hannah Montana

Why was the "Charted songs as Hannah Montana" section deleted? They are her songs, they should be included in here even if credited as Hannah. And at the end the name of the article is "Miley Cyrus DISCOGRAPHY" and therefor there should be included any song by her that ever charted, no matter if under Hannah or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FOTW-MC (talkcontribs) 19:17, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

There's a Hannah Montana discography. Decodet (talk) 20:01, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Change her solo singles chronology and remove Ready, Set, Don't Go.

Ready, Set, Don't Go should not be listed in her solo single section, she's just a featured artist and it was never on one of her own albums.

And See You Again should be listed as the first single in the solo single section. It was released as the lead single from her debut album Meet Miley Cyrus before Start All Over and was NOT the second single of Breakout (at least not in the US). — Preceding unsigned comment added by FOTW-MC (talkcontribs) 01:35, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Ready, Set, Don't Go is a duet therefore it is a single as a main artist. Not sure about See You Again, gonna check it out. Decodet (talk) 01:58, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

I agree with FOTW-MC, something about See You Again needs to be done. It was the first single from Meet Miley Cyrus and was only released internationally on Breakout. The single cover also needs to be changed back to the 2007 one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aaronboy123 (talkcontribs) 17:28, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Incorrect Sales Amount

So 50 million is incorrect the previous 20 was, sourced from mtv (I cant find the article but it was eminem vs miley). the daily star is not an accurate source it is basically the British version of a trashy newspaper. They are never correct and always persume their figures and sometimes make them higher to favour artists they like and lower then for artists they dislike. example is they recently quoted britney spears sales (100million) as 60 million - in a non internet story.

Orphaned references in Miley Cyrus discography

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Miley Cyrus discography's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Change See You Again to the lead single off Meet Miley Cyrus

Sadly this was already being ignored the first time(s) it was requested, but someone needs to change "See You Again" to the LEAD single off "Meet Miley Cyrus", released in late 2007. It wasn't a single off Breakout originally. It was released as the first single off Miley's first studio album Meet Miley Cyrus and sent to US Mainstream radios in late 2007/early 2008. It even charted on the Billboard Hot 100 during that time. It was just RE-RELEASED in late 2008 as the Rock Mafia Remix in some territories where the original version underperformed (Germany for example). Someone correct that please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FOTW-MC (talkcontribs) 18:17, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Done. "See You Again" was the lead single single off "Meet Miley Cyrus" indeed, while "See You Again (Rock Mafia Remix)" was the second single off "Breakout". I've changed the table and corrected it and I've also added a source. Decodet (talk) 18:52, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus

I really don't get why this album is named in the article as "Meet Miley Cyrus" only. Ok, I know it's a double disc album, disc 1 is soundtrack and disc 2 is studio album. However, by doing that way, it looks like it is a separate release, but we all know there is not. There was never a "Meet Miley Cyrus" album, it has always been released packaged with the Hannah Montana soundtrack. It is a joint album - it is a soundtrack and a studio album at the same time. So I think we should list it in the article as "Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus", which is the correct name of the album and the name it was released as. decodet. (talk) 17:16, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Exactly... They were never released separately. It's one album. — Status (talk · contribs) 17:19, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Merger proposal

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.

Result: not merged

I'm aware of the split suggestion above which resulted in the Hannah Montana discography article, but I'd like to give this merger proposal a try anyways. Let's see about some of the concerns raised in the split. The soundtrack albums at the Hannah Montana discography are also listed here. All of the releases listed at the Hannah Montana page are officially credited to "Hannah Montana" but everyone knows that it's Miley. Now, it doesn't make sense to have a separate page of a fictional character for real releases. I mean, it seems as if the discog page is talking about fictional releases by the character on the show. It might make a little bit more sense if it was a franchise/cast discography like Glee discography or High School Musical discography, except those releases were performed by a group (the cast) whereas these releases by Hannah Montana are by Miley Cyrus and Miley Cyrus alone (not counting the few tracks of other artists on some soundtracks). I'd also like to point out a certain conflict between fiction and reality. For example on the Hannah Montana: The Movie (soundtrack), some tracks are listed as "by Hannah Montana" and others "by Miley Cyrus". These songs by Miley Cyrus are actually by her character on the show, Miley Stewart. Regardless of what character is being played (Miley Stewart is also Hannah Montana), it is still Miley Cyrus the real person. Billboard lists releases by Miley Cyrus under "Hannah Montana" and "Miley Cyrus" (On separate pages, the Cyrus page has more charts listed. Kinda confusing if you ask me). Also the RIAA seems to be accurate (Cyrus, Miley as Hannah Montana). All of the singles performed as Hannah Montana should be merged into the singles here (it will be obvious that it is performed as Hannah Montana because of the album name anyway. Everything else is fine as is. Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 04:18, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Survey

Feel free to state your position on the merging proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *Support or *Oppose, then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons.

  • Support. They are all releases by Miley Cyrus, for me it just doesn't make any sense to have two separate articles. We could easily add them all in here and put a note, something like "Credited under the name of Hannah Montana". Decodet (talk) 15:34, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose Both articles are reasonably lengthy, almost all table and difficult to navigate for those not intimately into discographies. I see no reason why they shouldn't remain as separate lists, mainly for readability purposes. Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus are effectively two different people. Hannah Montana no longer releases songs while Cyrus' will continue to do so and this discography is only going to grow and grow. --AussieLegend () 01:11, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose In my opinion Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus are completely different acts. We wouldn't merge two different acts - Beyonce and Destiny's Child together would we? Candyo32 00:16, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
  • Support In my opinion they should be merged as the person who performed the songs is same. One cannot call them two different acts. If she was in another band or duo then we could have another list for it. Like for Eminem we have a different discography page for D12 and Bad meets Evil but not for Slim Shady it's pointless. Abhinav0908 (talk) 05:22, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
    • Hannah Montana is a Disney franchise that she fronted. There's a difference between that and an alter ego. — Status (talk · contribs) 20:38, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
  • Support I think that the Hannah discography is not needed. You won't make separate discographies for Ross Lynch and Austin Moon. So why this?--Shane Cyrus (talk) 15:02, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Both lists are already long enough. AussieLegend worded it best. — Status (talk · contribs) 20:36, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose per AussieLegend & Status - Both lists are long enough, Merging both would mean the page loading time would go from 2 minutes to 2years!. →Davey2010→→Talk to me!→ 07:41, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
  • Support These are all songs and releases by Miley Cyrus. It makes NO sense to have two discography articles for the same performer. Chambr (talk) 01:43, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
  • Support The length of the page shouldn't be an issue. Acts like Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj have many songs on their discography but everything is included because it is needed. The issue with this Miley/Hannah thing is that are they the same act or not. The answer? Yes. They are. Both are actually Miley Cyrus and all songs are performed by her. It's just like an artist that changed their name like Puff Daddy to P.Diddy to Diddy. Stellards20 (talk) 23:02, 30 July 2014 (UTC) stellards20
  • Oppose Decodet has given an important information. Sometimes characters get so notable — that their accomplishment deserve separate lists.Forbidden User (talk) 15:40, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Discussion

Any additional comments:

Just want to point out a similar case. In the first two soundtracks of High School Musical, the characters were credited instead of the actual performers. Ashley Tisdale, for instance, had singles off those soundtracks released under the name of Sharpay Evans. However, in her discography (a featured article, for instance), those releases are listed. If Bangerz is 3x Multi-Platinum album, why it says that have sold only 1 million? 3x platinum in the US means 3 million. Likeamath (talk) 19:50, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

In many countries (including the US), music recording certifications take streams into account. Also, the sales data is cited to Billboard, while the certification is cited to the Recording Industry Association of America. Since publications don't necessarily publish sales data immediately after an album hits a milestone, and record labels don't necessarily apply for certifications immediately after an album qualifies, it's common for the certifications and the sales count to be outdated and/or out-of-sync on Wikipedia. — Newslinger talk 09:45, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. — Newslinger talk 09:46, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Ashley O

If music credited as Hannah Montana ISN'T listed on this page, why is Ashley O listed here?

Request to either remove Ashely O single or merge page with Hannah Montana — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiEditor12349 (talkcontribs) 18:27, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

The Climb, Malibu & Feelin' Myself are all certified Platinum in the UK, so they should be changed from BPI: Gold to BPI: Platinum.
