As I understand it, AIDS itself rarely kills -- people die due to infections, etc. complicated by AIDS. In any event, a Google search reveals many AIDS-related websites saying Jeter's death was AIDS-related, Jeter is already listed in a wiki-category on the subject, and the previous edit dates back to 2004, so I changed it. 23skidoo 18:10, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am not a doctor, but I was under the impression that AIDS never kills people directly, but rather slowly lowers the bodies immune system to the point where even a severe cold can mortally wound the individual. If I am wrong about this, please correct me, but that is my understanding of the disease thus far. Ubergenius 14:26, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Other subject, just a note, I made an edit: For his work on Sesame Street his character had been listed on the page as "Mr.Noodle, and Mr.Noodle's brother". This is incorrect, and likely a misinterpretation by someone who read the correct character name which is actually "Mr.Noodle's brother, Mr.Noodle." That does not mean two characters. If the original wp editor has not seen the show, it would be easy to misunderstand that description as being two characters he played. It is not. He played one character , the brother of Mr.Noodle, who is of course also called Mr.Noodle, therefore he is "Mr.Noodle's brother, Mr.Noodle". HIV or AIDS?[edit]

The sentence starting "When he was diagnosed with HIV ..." has been changed to changed "... with AIDS" - which is correct? There's a difference: HIV is the virus; AIDS are symptoms of immune system failure, caused by HIV. - Mike Rosoft 19:29, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categories.[edit]

He is included in a couple of LGBT categories as well as people self-identifying as alcoholics and yet the article does not mention him being gay or an alcoholic. Perhaps both facts are common knowledge but personally I have never heard of him and so when I stumbled upon this article it confused me. Rather than do it myself I thought I would bring it here for confirmation in case neither statement is true. Keresaspa (talk) 01:23, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AIDS as COD is doubtful[edit]

The 2003 article/obituary on Jeter's sudden death doesn't say AIDS - it says "apparantly natural causes" . it further notes his HIV positive status and that he had been "in good health". "Natural Causes" as COD does not automatically become "died of AIDS" just because of previous HIV infection. Nobody goes from "in good health" to "suddenly dead of AIDS". Not even in Africa - there's a definite period of being "in bad health" before death occurs. Wikipedia has excellent pages on the HIV subject. I might also mention that in 2003, in America, and especially for the rich and famous, HIV treatment was available and effective. AIDS deaths had become a rarity for the likes of Jeter in 03.
