Mes Aynak monastery[edit]

Mes Aynak is the name of an ancient Buddhist monastery in Afghanistan from the 2nd century BC covering 4500 square metre which is under threat from mining currently (see article). This should be mentioned in the article. --Diggindeeper (talk) 12:08, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's not from BC but from 2.-7. cent. AD. BTW, does anybody have the correct coordinates for Mes Aynak??

Since July 29, 2011 all information about the ancient Buddhist monasteries in Mes Aynak has completely been deleted from this article. I suggest to reinsert some of this information. In its current state the article gives the misleading impression that Mes Aynak is significant primarily due to a copper mine and a defunct Qaeda training camp. The article should point out as well that Mes Aynak is a significant cultural heritage site. --Diggindeeper (talk) 13:59, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Magnitude of Resource[edit]

Aynak is in no way the world's second largest copper deposit. It is large, but 6 million tons of copper is surpassed by numerous other deposits worldwide. It is certainly the largest known copper deposit in Afghanistan.

Buddhist Ruins[edit]

Something i odd i found while reading through this article;

"The Buddhist ruins were scheduled to be destroyed at the end of July 2012, but for several reasons, including political instability, this has been delayed."

Is it me, or does this sound a bit POV'ish? Why would the ruins be destroyed? Aren't they an integral part of Afghan history? Seems like someone wrote this for the fun of it without sources. If no one objects, i will delete this line. Akmal94 (talk) 03:17, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Usually most lead paragraphs in articles do not have sources they are a summary of sourced information within the article.

Spelling of name[edit]

I've moved it back to the spelling used in the sources, or at least most of them as I haven't checked them all. I was searching for the meaning of the name and it quickly became obvious that Mes Aynak was the best way to search and greatly outnumbered other spellings in Google Books and Scholar.
