Why quotes are important in this case[edit]

I have removed the tag of "too many quotes." Froman is a philosopher, rabbi, leader, commentator - a man of words. His notability is precisely related to how he phrases ideas, particularly with regards to the Jewish religion, the State, nationalism, Judaism and human rights, relations with Palestinians, etc. He is a treasure of ideas, statements, quotes, and this article only provides a glimpse. Editors (who have probably never spoken to him or read his essays or books) and try to rephrase or cut out his words are doing a great disservice to the article. To be more blunt, they would be ruining this article, putting their own words instead of the carefully selected words of the rabbi. It's bad editing practice, inaccurate, prone to POV statements, and plainly wrong. Yes, there might be more quotes here than a regular article about the CEO of some company, but there is no "one size fits all" for determining when quotes are unnecessary and burdensome, and when they are important, illuminating, and insightful. In general, editors should have some respect for the time-consuming work of other editors who carefully read and review long articles and select important paragraphs or statements as quotes that illustrate an important point. Of course, I welcome editors who would like to add quotes that are reflective of ideas not covered in the current version. SelfEvidentTruths (talk) 23:07, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's interesting that you've singled out Rav Froman for a special formatted article which others do not deserve according to WP convention. It's also interesting that any other editor not complying to your format are alledged a lot of condescending things. And frankly, you have no idea if I've met Rav Froman, how many times, and what we talked about either. Turning the article into a circus reflects on the subject of the article and I do not think that this is welcome. The OR tag comes after your admitted analysis of the rabbi's works and you deciding which quotes are important and to include. --Shuki (talk) 22:43, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Froman lives in an Israeli settlement?[edit]

Does Menachem Froman live in an Israeli settlement? --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 23:39, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Hebrew article says "כיום מכהן הרב פרומן כרבהּ של תקוע". This means he is the chief rabbi of the town of Tekoa. I have never heard of a chief rabbi of a town who was not a resident of the town. Basket of Puppies 01:32, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This NYT article says: "Rabbi Froman, 63, is a founding member of Gush Emunim, the ideological, messianic settlement movement that sprang up after Israel’s conquest of the West Bank, with its biblical landmarks, in the 1967 war. He has been living here for 35 years, teaches at religious seminaries in Tekoa and in another West Bank settlement in the Hebron hills, and wears a black suit and white shirt, conventional Orthodox rabbinical garb. But that is about where his similarity with other Jewish settlers in the West Bank ends." and "among his fellow West Bank settlers".
