A fact from Maximilian William of Brunswick-Lüneburg appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 18 November 2014 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that Maximilian William(pictured), brother of King George I, was exiled for plotting to regain his inheritance, and his election as prince-bishop was invalidated because it was a Lutheran's turn?
Does anyone know if he converted to Catholicism at some point, and thus became excluded from succession to the British throne? john k (talk) 01:36, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The ODNB article on Ernest Augustus, Duke of York and Albany (here if you've got a subscription) describes its subject as the "remaining protestant brother" of George I in 1715. I dropped German after one year at school, but I think the German wikipedia article on Maximilian says he converted in 1692 (though providing no source), while the ADBarticle on his mother says he fell firstly into debt and then into the arms of the Jesuits, without giving a date.
