Motive?[edit]

What was Matthew Miller's motive for tearing up his American passport? 64.134.101.88 (talk) 15:27, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

At this time, answering that question would be speculation as all information about this came from the Korean government. Shii (tock) 04:54, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
During his meeting with some American reporters (while still in custody) he said that his real intention was to get sentenced to a North Korean prison so that he could report on human rights abuses. If that was in fact his plan, it worked beautifully. TheBlueCanoe 03:01, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
But I'm not sure he went to prison. At least initially he was under house arrest in a hotel room.--Jack Upland (talk) 06:56, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Good point - I admit I don't know the precise circumstances of his detention.TheBlueCanoe 00:15, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Accent/Origin?[edit]

A somewhat minor point, but in interviews he spoke with what sounds to me like an Irish accent (although Reuters and The Independent described it as "a slight British accent") even though he is apparently from California. Has this ever been explained? Muzilon (talk) 00:14, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
