Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because the creator just made it two seconds ago and will expand it and probably has good reason to think the subject is notable. --Anna Frodesiak (talk) 20:44, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Relative?[edit]

I have it set up for automatic translation from Dutch to English. I get: The first mayor was Matthew Marinus Piershil Schepman. Matthew Marinus Schepman was born on Wednesday, January 8, 1777 in Rotterdam, son of Dr. Teunis (also Anthony or Antoine) Schepman (lord of Valck Stein) and Henrietta Maria Welborn. Looks like grandfather and grandmother to me - now that I am looking at it closer. It appears his father's name is the same as subject's name.--Doug Coldwell ^talk 19:38, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nederlandse Malacologische Vereniging[edit]

Looked up Nederlandse Malacological Vereniging in the Dutch wikipedia. I note that they did not have an article specifically on that subject, nor did they have one on Mattheus Marinus Schepman, but they had a large article on Malacology, and I think there were a lot of Dutch malcologists listed who aren't in the English wikipedia. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 16:09, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A spelling question[edit]

Yes that citation is in the appropriate article, and yes, "mollusc" is the British English spelling, whereas "mollusk" is the American English spelling. Perhaps this article should all be in British English as Schepman was Dutch, and British English is what most Dutch people learn, the UK being right across the North Sea from the Netherlands? I think that the choice should be culturally sensitive, depending upon the subject matter of the article. Having the spelling flip around in one article that has a particular geographic locus makes no sense. I agree strongly. I think one should try to consciously chose which English should be used, based on the subject matter of the article, where that is applicable. However, basically what tends to happen is that people forget that this is even an issue, and just edit away haphazardly in their own version of English. For DYKs and anything else that appears on the Main Page, this is a significant issue and care should be taken to resolve it before the DYK appears.
