Matt Cutts Facts External Link[edit]

I think this link in non-encyclopedic, as it does not convey any useful information, other than the fact that a joke site exists about Matt. I am deleting, and adding in the edit notes that in order for the site to be added, to discuss it here first. Puchscooter 14:19, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

Cutts gets quoted in two New York Times articles.[1] [2] Times' search engine also pulled up an abstract of another article, but I was unable to see the whole article which supposedly includes Cutts.[3]

See this Wall Street Journal article.[4] Further searching the Wall Street Journal [5], Cutts is also apparently mentioned in 4 other articles but I did not pay for them.[6] [7] [8] [9] --A. B. ^(talk) 13:26, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability revisited[edit]

The article clearly violates General notability guideline: —— "Significant coverage" means that sources address the subject directly in detail, so no original research is needed to extract the content. Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention but it need not be the main topic of the source material. " —— Being quoted in an article, even if it's New York Times or Wall Street Journal is "a trivial mention". That's NOT "significant coverage" as defined by Wikipedia. We don't see WSJ or New York Times publishing articles specifically about the life of a distinguished scientist Matt Cutts. Maybe then we would have reliable information about his date of birth.

It doesn't seem that Matt Cutts satisfies any of the criteria listed here, either. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_%28academics%29 Being a part of a webspam team at Google doesn't cut it.

To sum it up. Matt Cutts is one of 2000+ PhDs working for Google. Are we going to create Wikipedia articles about each one of them? Codecore (talk) 17:45, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Have you guys seen this? I wish I could alert him, but since his blog has been hacked I can't retrieve his contact info. Reference #2[edit]

Original research[edit]

I have found some statements that was not attributed by what was actually in the cited reference. I've rephrased some and removed some.

One such example is an article credited as written by Rand Fiskins of SEOMOZ.org as posted by Danny Sullivan on Searchengine watch reports "Matt then added that today, GoogleGuy might be one of many different people from Google commenting in public areas." but an editor posted here as "Cutts allegedly admitted to using the identity GoogleGuy in posts to web related boards" The translation into the latter statement is an original research and as shown in the source, it is open to interpretation. I have not gone through all the sources with a fine toothed comb yet, but added the tag as the article may contain further original research. Cantaloupe2 (talk) 09:25, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lead paragraph[edit]

This article stated for quite a while that Cutts is the leader of "webspam", so i changed it to something more neutral. Now that it is on my watchlist, it seems that someone has changed it from 'search quality team member' to "volunteer". from the above paragraph that Cutts himself (lol) could be a prankster. Spouse[edit]

I removed the infobox data about the subject's deceased spouse. If that info were to be restored, there must be a citation to verify the info somewhere in the article (which there isn't at the moment).

In addition, if we list a deceased spouse, we should conduct research of reliable sources to determine if there is a current spouse. It would potentially be a violation of WP:UNDUE to list one spouse without a more recent one. I have no idea if he remarried, or not. Jehochman ^Talk 17:13, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
