How can this article fail to mention whether she is Democrat, Republican, Independent, etc.?

The role she holds isn't a partisan one in which Democrats and Republicans compete electorally to "win"; it's a non-partisan civil service role, not an elected political office. So whatever her political affiliations may be on her own time and dime, they (a) aren't relevant to her holding of the job she's notable for, and (b) may not even be known on the public record at all.
