Sapherson mystery[edit]

The Independent says she was born Sapherson (as did the article before today) and does not mention her first husband's name. www.45-rpm.org.uk, on the other hand, says Paul and Barry changed their name to Ryan from Sapherson, who was her first husband. But nowhere is there any mention of her maiden and first husband's name being the same. Unusual name. Cousins? If there are no other sources forthcoming, perhaps we should change the article to admit this inconsistency. Rothorpe (talk) 00:04, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Marion Ryan, not Sapherson[edit]

Hello, It was me that changed the article. I read it yesterday via reading about Barry Ryan and thought it odd, so being an amateur genealogist, I decided to do some digging.

Barry & Paul Ryan were born Barry & Paul Sapherson in the 4th qtr 1948 in Leeds- their mother’s maiden name is listed as “Ryan”. Looking at marriages, a Fred Sapherson married Marion Ryan in Leeds 2nd qtr 1948.

It appears that this Fred was Lloyd George Frederick Sapherson (1913- 2001) who had previously married an Olive E Wilson in Leeds in 1934.

Marion married Harold Davison in Maldon, Essex in 1969, not 1967 as stated in the article.

As for Marion’s birth, there are no records for a Marion Sapherson being born anywhere in England & Wales, or indeed a Marion Ryan being born in Middlesborough. However a MariAn Ryan was born in Middlesborough 1st qtr 1931, which ties up with our Marion’s birth.

Hope this makes sense? It looks like Barry and Paul took their mother’s maiden name, and that she was born Ryan. I think this justifies changing the article to include my amendments. Biggus d (talk) 10:19, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Lloyd George Frederick sapherson was his name… he was my grandfather apparently

and his true name was Pinski

him and his parents came from Belarus… they escaped when they Germans was killing the jews and they escaped to Leeds… they had to change there name so they didn’t get traced…

he changed it to sapherson or married a sapherson and took her name… hence why Martian could of been born a sapherson and he took her name in marriage… Barry and Paul are the sons of them.

If Sapherson outlived her, they must have been divorced. A date for this event might be appropriate. Meanwhile the link to Harold Davison just links-thru to the Marion Ryan article. 109.154.8.184 (talk) 18:52, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
