Vandalism from port 216.167.223.145 once more[edit]

Are we dealing with this at all? I researched the port number and it seems they've been doing this all over the web. The time of entry 19:01 on the fourteenth Central US time from MN points to someone out of the school district pretty late at night. That is if its actually coming from there. Because mannequins (excluding me) don't move, so people think its a shark. KM

Mannequin as synonym for Model[edit]

I remember seeing "mannequin" used as a synonym for a fashion model in a novel set in the late edwardian or the twenties. I don't remember it as having a derogatory connotation. 70.71.69.221 10:49, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mannequin was used as a synonym for model because we model things, much like human models. KM

Prices for mannequins[edit]

Back in the early 1970s, my father rented out an entire floor of a building to a store that did nothing but manufacture and market life-sized mannequins. The typical buyer was a department store that needed mannequins to dress up in clothes that were for sale. Back then, a mannequin had a variety of prices, but the one price I can remember, was $500 US Dollars. Lack of Information[edit]

I feel as if this article lacks technical information, such the type of materials the mannequins are made of, the manufacturing process, how much they weigh, whether they're hollow or filled, etc. Also, there is no information about the artist's mannequins - apart from the picture. A section on them would be helpful too, and a history of mannequins would also be great in addition to the etymology. This entire article, the way it currently is, seems to be about badmouthing mannequins about how they're perceived as "creepy" by society, and used in works of fiction as such. 220.253.185.76 (talk) 07:00, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling[edit]

In addition to the standard spelling, I've also seen the term spelled "mannikin" and "manikin". Merriam-Webster (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/mannequin) seems to indicate both of those are acceptable (it doesn't say they're misspellings). Should they be included in the article?

inflatable, ghost and ironing mannequins aren't 'mainstream' (as in popular) and I don't really see a section in this page where they could fit. KM

English gentleman, living together with a lifeless mannequin[edit]

Do somebody in Wikipedialand knows the name of the British TV-movie in which a well-to-do English gentleman is living together with a lifeless mannequin which he calls "Helen"? It is a very weird movie. This gentleman is always performing fruitless telephone calls from his office, to know if his "Helen" is at home or not. There is (understandable) never an answer at the other end of the line, and he (the gentleman) is always in panic. Each day he is driving homeward to know what's wrong with "Helen" and why she doesn't answer the telephone. As far as I can remember, this gentleman could have been the British actor Richard Briers, but it is too long ago (it might have been on BBC TV somewhere in the eighties or early nineties).
