Konkani Wikipedia

Dear Konknni friends,

Konkani Wikipedia has been started and been in test stage since August 2006.

Kindly contribute towards the Konkani wikipedia. We intend to make it a multiscript

Wikipeida. At least tri-script with Roman ,Devanangiri and Kannada scripts since these are the most popular ones.

We would like to get more articles/templates in place. We also need volunteers to do the thankless and boring job of transliterating it to different scripts .

As of now only two members are making active contributions. The more the merrier. Your contribution is vital to its success.

Merge

This article is largely redundant given that most of the content is already included in this article: Mangalorean Catholics. Besides I have never seen the term Mangalorean Konkani being used as an encompassing term for all Konkanis in Mangaore. They identify themselves more by their relegious identities than linguistic ones, and with very little social interaction between the three groups. --Deepak D'Souza (talk • contribs) 12:27, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Comment : Sorry for my ignorance here. But one basic question : Are all Mangalorean Konkanis Catholics and viceversa? Only IF they are mutually inclusive completely , I think they shoud be be merged . - Tinucherian (talk) 02:16, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

NO..The Konkanis in Mangalore are divided into 2 huge groups--- Hindu GSB Konkanis (50%) and Catholics Konkanis or Mangalorean Catholics (50%)----->>>>Kensplanet (talk) 08:16, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I strongly oppose the merger of Mangalorean Konkani to the article Mangalorean Catholics. The term Mangalorean Konkani generally encompasses all Mangaloreans or people from the sorrounding areas who speak Konkani irrespective of faith. On the other hand, Mangalorean Catholics only refers to those Mangalorean Konkani speaking people who profess Roman Catholicism as their faith. Joyson Noel (talk)

Perhaps you should understand two things

1) The term "Mangalore Konkani" does not exist anywhere except for this article itself. The two main groups : Catholics and GSBs simpy do not consider themselves to be a single entity(sad but true). I can vouch for this fact since I am a Mangalorean Konkani Catholic myself. Try googling and see how manu pages that describe a community called "Mangalore Konkani" 2) The person who createed this article happens to be a very biased and POV oriented chap who used Wikipedia to create his own versions of history. He wasnt even aware of the fact that Konkanis in Mangalore aren just Catholics(b.t.w, he was a Goan). As such this article is a very good candidate for Original research
