The statement "Mainstream is thought to be the antithesis of individuality, yet this is only the view of a small number of people." may not have been accurate. It is hard to accurately say just how many people might agree with that statement since it would seem that many people might not want to go against the mainstream due to societal pressure even if they had a different view then the mainstream. Thus few people would express agreement with the above statement as it would indicate a disagreement with concept of the mainstream. Thus I change the statement to one that states they some people people have expressed the above opinion without trying to quantify how many people agree with it. --Cab88 13:49, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

Mainstream-Cult 2 articles

By their "majority rule" definitions,classical music is subculture music (hence Fricsay has Cult following),and Chaucer's becomes subculture English?

We need a section on mainstream literature. It's mentioned at the top, but is not explained below.

that sounds an extreme opinion to me.

Good god who wrote this section? 'This music in most cases involves little talent and does not push any musical boundaries'. So The Beatles didn't push any boundaries? So Radiohead pushed no boundaries? So Nirvana pushed no boundaries? So The Who pushed no boundaries? So Oasis pushed no boundaries? I could go on and on... and not just boundaries. Many artists in the mainstream are there because they are the MOST talented. If this section wasn't written by one of those obscure underground supporters then who the hell wrote it?!!

But we must remember that they where not mainstream to start off with, and thats why they broke boundaries. the moment these bands became mainstream they slowly lost their "original sounds" and became just that, mainstream
