Conflicting information[edit]

From the article:

"Lovers' lanes" are typically found in cultures built around the automobile . . ."

"Lovers' lanes have existed for centuries..."

Automobiles have not existed "for centuries", so either one of these two statements is incorrect, or else further clarification is needed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.95.43.253 (talk • contribs)

I've removed the "centuries" sentence as confusing (and the whole red-light connection is unsourced and dubious). Technically, "for centuries" is correct (19th, 20th, 21st) but putting it that way isn't helpful to the reader. Lovers' lanes preceded the automobile. I'm not convinced "typically found in cultures built around the automobile" is correct either, but I need to track down sources that actually examine the phenomena.
