Anson & Walthall[edit]

After a screen test of 56 year-old retired stage actor A.E. Anson, Capra decided that he was just right for the part. He made a call to the actor's home, and the housekeeper who answered the phone was told to relay the message to Anson that the part was his. Not long after, the housekeeper called back telling Capra that when Anson heard the news, he had a heart attack and died. Subsequently, Capra offered the part to 58 year-old Henry B. Walthall. He died before shooting began.

Untitled[edit]

Remake reminiscent of Gilligan's Island? I don't think this can be right, although I have never seen G.I. Is there anyone who has seen both who can confirm this please? DavidFarmbrough 12:58 (BST) 6 September 2005

I've heard very bad things about the musical. It's just a joke and doesn't really belong here, but it's so funny, I'm not going to remove it. Besides, the comparison is an insult to Gilligan's Island. Clarityfiend 04:32, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen both films, and believe you me, it is b-a-d. Even the top-notch cast (or miscast) would not save this turkey. And I agree with Clarityfiend, it is an insult to Gilligan's Island. RashBold Talk to me 22:50, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shortened version[edit]

The reason for the editing currently given on the page is a new one on me. I thought it was cut down to fit a double bill after FDR said a certain group of bombers involved in an air raid on Japan "came from Shangri La". Unfortunately, my source isn't handy (it was either in a Halliwell book or on the DVD commentary, which goes deeply into the restoration). Ending[edit]

2013 restoration[edit]

Does the 2013 digital restoration of the film restore its original length? Given the cuts to the film, this should be mentioned.

So I think the external links section should definitely link to the full version of the film on some streaming site.

However I'm not sure if that would be legal concerning the copyright (even though everything else would pretty much be nonsensical).

Note number 4 does not contain confirmation of the statement[edit]

I mean this "The serious financial crisis it created for Columbia Pictures damaged the partnership between Capra and studio head Harry Cohn, as well as the friendship between Capra and Riskin".
