Loch Formation[edit]

Thanks for producing this interesting article, I was intrigued that it said the Loch was created during the Loch Lomond Readvance - a relatively short period to create this over-deepened glacial trough. An initial search, did not help my query, but The Geology of Scotland gives more detail, stating that at least 67,000 years of glacial erosion was needed. It may be that the terminal moraine at the end of the loch was created at the end of the Readvance, which may be the source of the confusion. Snippet views suggest that this altered the drainage of the lake. Maybe the article needs to separate the creation of the trough or basin in which it sits, and the formation of the lough itself...Jokulhlaup (talk) 21:08, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There's some ambiguity about what the loch would have looked like before the most recent glacial action - all that the ref says is "have left their imprint," and I tried to reflect this in the article, although maybe "created" was too bold. Something like "The trough has been gouged out by glacial forces over many thousands of years, the most recent period of glaciation having been the Loch Lomond Stadial." might be better. I don't know much about geology, so could be wildly wrong about anything. Jamesx12345 21:37, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for responding, that ref is a bit vague, as is the 'Glaciation of the Loch Morar Area' page. My knowledge is also limited, so will do dome more searching...Jokulhlaup (talk) 16:10, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
