Date of the mill[edit]

The Usk Town Visitors Guide, published 2010, gives a date of building of "around 1850" and a date for the fire of 26 years later. The guide gives no sources, unfortunately. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:02, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The mill website says it dates "from around the Napoleonic Wars", which matches the date of "around 1813" given in the source used in the article. Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:51, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
How romantic! I'm sure one's "luxury reteat" would be enhanced by such knowledge, if you see what I mean. But I also see that the mill website itself also gives no source. Given the professionalism of the little Usk Town Guide, I'd be surprised if they got this wrong. Maybe it's worth getting in touch to find out what their source was. Regards. The mill probably either got it from here, or from the Buildings of Wales volume that I got it from. Those books are usually reliable, if not infallible. My experience of local visitors' guides is that they are often less authoritative! Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:33, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds perfectly reliable. But I am intrigued, so maybe I'll drop them a line. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:57, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have now heard from the Town Clerk in Usk, who is contacting the owners of the mill to ask them directly. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:46, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
