POV

While I'm glad to find someone else besides myself and my ex who like Liz Phair it was a critical flop, not smash. The article even attributes negative reviews and criticism to positive ones (?!). Hyacinth 05:37, 13 May 2004 (UTC)

Bisexual

I removed the bit about her bisexuality, since just hinting at it doesn't seem like just cause to include it in an encyclopedia article. I did put the article it is from in the references, however.--Weebot 06:54, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Record sales

The article had a bit re: Whip Smart that it hadn't sold as well as "Guyville". (I reworded the sentence a bit, but someone else wrote it.) However, as I was looking for source info today for my edits, I saw on at least 2 webpages that "Whip-Smart" was actually the best selling LP in Matador Records' history. Which, ergo, means it had to sell more than "Guyville". Does anyone have access to find out what the cumulative sales of "Guyville" and "Whip-smart" have been? NickBurns 20:01, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Albini

The part about Steve Albini is unclear. Did he criticize Phair, or was he defending her? That bit could be rewritten by someone familiar with the controversy. 38.115.19.227 15:27, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

That was a criticism, I'm pretty sure. Rejecting mainstream attention and/or tactics (and staying within that more insular underground world) was a very dearly-held alternative/underground ethic at the time - and artists who went from underground to mainstream in the early 90s almost always got a lot flack for it (i.e. the "selling out" accusation). So, I don't think he was defending her. Now, I think they've patched things up somehow and are on good terms. I read a recent Rolling Stone article (within the last few weeks) that touches on this: Albini is apparently on the DVD documentary that's coming out (along with her reissue of _Guyville_). Untitled 2007 Album

Does anyone know where I can get more information about the supposed album expected for 2007? I saw something listed in her discography section. There's no seperate article on the subject and her official website hasn't been updated since January of 2006.24.235.22.30 02:39, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

CD "reviews"

move to California

Might be relevant to mention that she moved to Southern California (Hollywood area, I think) a few years ago (sometime after 2003). Not that moves like this are relevant for every artist, necessarily; but since she has always been very closely linked to the Chicago area and its music scene, might be useful to note that in the personal life section or in the appropriate album section that corresponds to the time when she moved (which would be in the years prior to the Guyville reissue). I'll look for a source - I know I read about it in interviews, but not sure if she gave reasons why...Sinderbloog (talk) 22:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Discography split

This needs to be discussed because it says so in the article, if not just to reach a consensus and remove that ugly template. Question about Commons

I noticed that there is a Category for Liz Phair in Commons with four photos in it, but an unusual thing, there's a link back to this page at the top of the page, and the typical link "en.wikipedia" showing that photos were being used here, but at the top, labeled differently?? Well, speaking for myself, I don't think it's great, it's taken too far away and at too sharp an agle to be able to see her face, and nothing is distinctive about it except maybe the hat, I presume this was taken at SXSW in 2011. Does LP even have one anymore? lizphair.com is hardly more than a homepage. Trying to find her extended defense of Funstyle online was fruitless. Lost record deal for rapping?

Infobox image

I changed the infobox image from File:Liz Phair Live.jpg to File:Liz Phair 2018 (cropped).jpg because the subject is facing the reader in the latter photograph, which makes it more informative. JakeDckstr reverted it, claiming that the former is an "approved image from Liz and the photographer". Frankly, I do not know what that means and how or why it should influence our choice. Opening sentence

Am I the only one that thinks the opening line needs revision? (Looking at other similar articles) I'm not so sure "blunt, honest, and explicit lyrics about sex and relationships" belongs in the opening line nor do I thinks it best sums up Phair's quintessential qualities. It may or may not be reliably sourced in the article, as I did not see it, but I don't think the emphasis should be on that. These points could be dealt with in their own musical style section or if need be lower down in the lead but not the opening sentence. Any other thoughts regarding this?
