Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on March 1, 2009.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that when 2001 Chicago Marathon winner Catherine Ndereba set the world record, she joined four-time winner Khalid Khannouchi with a current world record time set at the Chicago Marathon?

You're missing 60+ years of winners[edit]

Why aren't all the winners of the marathon listed here? Didn't the marathon start in 1905? Here's a simple list of the '05 to '09 winners on page 225 of the Chicago Daily News Almanac: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uc1.b3006816&view=1up&seq=225 There's got to be plenty of resources for the mid years. Just curious! Comm260 ncu (talk) 03:18, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Move?[edit]

Wouldn't List of Chicago Marathon winners be a more simplistic title? Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits) 17:29, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Also, I propose that the lists of winners from the other World Marathon Majors (London, Boston, Berlin, New York) be included as "See also"s – with a bit of work this could make an interesting comprehensive resource. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits) 21:10, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • I still think this is a good idea. I'm going to go ahead with the move shortly if there are no objections. SFB 15:39, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

Some questions about this featured list:

  1. Why does only a limited number of winners have a source reference?
  2. Why are all photos of male competitors, and none of female or wheelchair competitors?

I think these things should be addressed for this list to keep its FL status. – Editør (talk) 16:24, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There are more issues:
  • The country victory counts in the lead do not match winners table data
  • The wheelchair division table is not updated
  • The wheelchair division table doesn't have a legend for the green color
  • The wheelchair division table uses only color as marker (MOS:COLOR)
  • The country summary table does not match winners table data
  • Images don't have alt texts (MOS:ACCIM)
  • Tables don't have captions (MOS:DTAB)
  • Tables don't have row headers
These things should also be addressed to keep the FL status. – Editør (talk) 10:14, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Some more issues:
  • The History section heading seems unnecessary
  • The main photo of Khalid Khannouchi was taken during another marathon (New York City)
  • The images in the Winners section are not in chronological order like the table they accompany
  • The photo of Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot was taken during another marathon (Boston)
  • The photo of Felix Limo was taken during another marathon (London)
  • The image caption for the photo Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot doesn't match the description on Wikimedia Commons
