Retired out[edit]

This list includes "retired out", yet technically, a player who retires is "out", but not "given out", meaning he or she has not actually been dismissed, correct? Joefromrandb (talk) 07:16, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is covered by Law 25 : Retiring due to injury / illness / other unavoidable cause is recorded as Retired - Not out and the batsman is entitled to resume his innings later if possible. Retiring voluntarily is recorded as Retired - Out, and the player cannot bat again. Retired - Out is also counted as a wicket on the scorecard and for statistical purposes, but is not credited to a member of the fielding team (similar to obstructing the field / timed out).
