AMSL vs AGL[edit]

The elevation varies from about 3 feet (0.9 m) to about 9 feet (2.7 m) along the oceanfront in this area, so buildings may be measured differently. The FAA and many others usually refer to height above sea level since it is such a level playing field in South Florida, with probably more than 95% of land in the entire region located below 10 feet (3.0 m) above sea level. This Forbes piece on the Porsche Design Tower suggests that it will "compete with Mansions" for the tallest in Sunny Isles, and indeed I remember hearing back in the day when it was first proposed that it would max out the height allowance, so the discrepancy between Mansions (643) and Porsche (641) is probably just in ground level. Also, all of the towers that claim to be 649 feet (198 m) are being measured from sea level and are actually not any taller than Mansions or Porsche. B137 (talk) 04:27, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed the primary source, http://www.porsche-design.com/en/News/Porsche-Design-Tower/ states that the "total height" is 650 feet and so does this site: http://investinmiami.com/porsche-design-tower/#.VRt4pfl4rYh which goes on to say that makes it the "tallest coastal residential tower in the US", which may be true only insofar as many buildings such as in Miami are technically a few addresses away from the actual waterside, and technically it's Biscayne Bay. TheNextMiami, formerly exMiami, which is a blog that seems to do their homework, states "The round building will rise to 641 feet, with 595 feet for the building and the balance for the parapet, according to public records." Although this image makes it look like a lot less than 50' of parapet. B137 (talk) 04:57, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
