Comment[edit]

Regarding Cheyenne (disambiguation) and the List of places named Cheyenne - there were long discussions about the disambiguation pages, including and culminating in this one. Including the List of places page.–CaroleHenson (talk) 22:36, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Requested name change:

During recent discussions with Clarityfiend, based upon the discussion at this archived disambig discussion, the original suggested name for this page was List of places named for the Cheyenne. I created a page with that name, but then renamed it to this page name "List of places named Cheyenne".
Around that time there were a ton of conversations about articles, disambig pages and redirect pages related to articles starting with "Cheyenne" and I cannot find the specific place that the name was suggested to be changed to this new name and I cannot remember why.

Question:

@MelanieN, BD2412, Bkonrad, Steel1943, Wbm1058, Anthony Appleyard, and Lineagegeek: (Bkonrad = older ≠ wiser) —I pinged you because you weighed in on this earlier at the disambig page or Talk:Cheyenne Mountain and we are wondering, do you see any issue with the name being changed to List of places named for the Cheyenne?–CaroleHenson (talk) 15:43, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • This list seems redundant to Cheyenne (disambiguation). WP:CONCISE suggests that "for the" is not necessary, unless there are places named Cheyenne that are not named for the Cheyenne. Possibly there could be a book or a movie named Cheyenne because its setting is in Cheyenne, Wyoming, so it is named for the city, which is in turn named for the Native American people? Suggest filing a formal WP:RM if you want to pursue this. wbm1058 (talk) 16:00, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks, Wbm1058. Well, on the list is Cheyenne Lodge, originally named Cheyenne Mountain Lodge that was named for Cheyenne Mountain, but it sounds like your first choice is to merge this into Cheyenne (disambiguation). This then opens the door for this to become a list of anything with Cheyenne as the prefix or {{intitle}} again to make it more than a disambiguation page, but if that's the way the tide is turning that's fine.
What is it called if it's more than a disambiguation page and contains prefixes and intitle values on the page like Cheyenne Lodge, Cheyenne Mountain, etc. that would not be referred to as Cheyenne?–CaroleHenson (talk) 19:29, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, so now I see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of places named Cheyenne; I didn't notice that before. I'm not as much a hard-liner on partial title matches as some, but if that is an issue then it may be sufficient justification to keep this. I also note that Category:Lists of places named after people may support your suggestion, though that seems to just have lists of places named after a specific person, rather than a group of people. I have no strong opinions about this, so if there aren't any other comments after a while, you could try being bold here. wbm1058 (talk) 19:44, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much, Wbm1058 It sounds like if it's going to be named List of places named after the Cheyenne, we should prune the list to remove the non-applicable items on the page, like Cheyenne Lodge. Cheyenne belt was probably named after Cheyenne, Wyoming. Cheyenne County Courthouse (Colorado) and Cheyenne County Jail were named after the county.
Clarityfiend and anyone that would like to weigh-in, What do you think - should the article title be changed and remove the items that would not be applicable. Leave it as-is? Something else?–CaroleHenson (talk) 22:47, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
