Added mention of latest sanctions list[edit]

RE the US Sanctions List, I have added it below the expanding section so that we have at least something on it. Why my comment here was deleted? And by whom?[edit]

Hi, I'm a student from Kiev. My attempt of dispute resolution with the help of corresponding Wiki pages' content led me to the "starting point", so I'll start figuring it out right from here. Months ago I've posted a comment asking corresponding natives about whether double standards of political worldview, irrational, chauvinistic and inhuman contempt for some political point of view (any, not necessary concerning Russia or Ukraine), resulting, in the described case, in referring to pro-russian supporters as "2nd grade" and "cattle whose viewpoint should not be considered seriously", are thus enormously widespread in U.S. and EU societies as they are in Ukrainian society? I don't believe it, but some Internet comments drive me into a confusion. It's on the border of life-and-death matters for me now, so I would appreciate someone's response.

Сertainly was offtopic, but by no means containing other inappropriate things. Must be mentioned: the comment was quite polite and discreet with respect to the Ukrainians. As far as I understood reading policies and guidelines, an offtopic is not a reason for total deletion of the comment. It may be tagged as offtopic, hidden or smth, but one shouldn't delete it. Am I missing something, have I misunderstood policies and rules? Can someone please help me in clarifying the situation? What do the "sanctions" consist of ?[edit]

This article is about sanctions, but still does not give any detail about the kind of "sanctions" people and companies from both sides have been targeted with. Shouldn't we at least mention it. Mexico and Chile[edit]

The map is from the Russian Wikipedia. The list of sources that it references don't mention Chile or Mexico. Also there are no mentions of Chile or Mexico in the Russian/Ukrainian media. This is really the talk page for the English Wikipedia article. To raise questions regarding the image file, I would recommend starting a thread on the discussion page of commons:File:Sanctions 2014 Russia2.png; that way, the original image uploader is more likely to see it. More eyes needed at the sanctions section 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine[edit]

There was a bit of edit warring there, as well as inaccurate information and general lack of content. The best way to ensure this section is better is to draw more eyes to it, so I'd like to invite editors editing this page there. UK column[edit]

IS there an easy way to remove the UK column? The UK is already included as part of the EU. The source given in the table for the UK column is simply wrong in showing some differences, and the section REGIME: Ukraine (Sovereignty) in this list (from a UK government source) confirms all those on the EU sanctions list have been sanctioned in the UK (which you would expect, as it is part of the EU).--109.158.145.78 (talk) 01:54, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Austria[edit]

Why is there a separate listing for individuals sanctioned by Austria? Shouldn't Austria, as a member state of the EU, should be bound by the EU sanctions? Yakikaki (talk) 09:00, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are entirely right: Part of the EU and the Austria column should be removed. I would have done it, but I don't understand the wikitable format. The so-called "Risk Advisory" source (original gone and only available through wayback machine) is entirely unreliable and their newer version isn't any better. I'd love to help out, but I'm going on vacation tomorrow morning. Here are some sources that perhaps could be useful, though: Japan, Us, Background EU, EU and more EU. There are of course tons in the media, as well, more or less biased... If you're going to make an overhaul, please also see my question about Austria above - I suppose they should be removed as a separate entity? They are, after all, members of the EU - or have I missed anything? Anyway, good luck! First, no reason to add actual/general info under the BIG list. It will be very difficult for readers to surf the article. Also WP:SIZE say: At 50 kB and above it may be beneficial to move some sections to other articles and replace them with summaries (now >50 kB). Also we have different inerwikies for both articles in uk and ru-wiki. To all: please add new info to International sanctions during the 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine, not to "list". User:Yakikaki is entirely right: Austria should be removed from the wikitable as they are part of the EU. They don't have separate sanctions. I would have removed the Austria column myself, but I don't understand the wikitable format. The so-called "Risk Advisory" source (original gone and only available through wayback machine) is entirely unreliable and their newer version isn't any better. In contrast, Japan and New Zealand have sanctioned individuals in this crisis, but both countries are missing from the wikitable. They're already correctly marked on the map in the article's lead and mentioned in the intro of "Against Russia, Crimea, and Ukraine". Finally, Liechtenstein and Norway are not the only non-EU country in Europe that follow the EU sanctions (see flag below EU in wikitable): Montenegro, Iceland, Albania, Moldova and Ukraine are doing the same ([1], [2], [3], etc). Entities sanctioned[edit]

It seems a number of entities, mainly state-run companies, that are on at least the EU sanction list, have been removed from this list. Perhaps instead of removing them it would be more informative to either expand the title of the article to "List of individuals and entities sanctioned during the 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine" or add a subsection called "entities" or some other solution? Well, I couldn't compare it to other nonexistent articles or other non-notable topics, like sanctions against individuals of Belarus in 2012. Therefore, that's all I come up with. If it doesn't violate such prohibition, then is the list itself notable per WP:N?   • No. Nothing wrong with the article in general. It's an article to be extremely careful about as it describes a semi-war and living persons. One could argue that it's very extensive and if such sanctions had taken place ten years in the past, no one would have bothered making a whole list like this. Split[edit]

This list article has become excessively long and should be split into separate list articles for people and organizations. Currently, the ones sanctioned by Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, the European Union and Australia are not even kept in separate tables which makes this list even more difficult to navigate.
