Name change[edit]

Just clarifying to all as per @JammyJames60:'s recent edit that evidently the name of members of this body are in law [1] defined as a Member of the Senedd (Aelod o'r Senedd in Welsh). Hence this article will need to move to List of members of the Senedd this coming Wednesday. Llemiles (talk) 22:10, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Significant regig[edit]

I created the original article as a list of all members (since 1999) of the Assembly/Senedd.

Someone has hopefully added a list of current members at the top. Whilst I can see many poeple would be interested in this, would they not be better pointed at the 2016 Members page? Littlemonday (talk) 13:21, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't the 2016 members list about the members who were elected in 2016, rather than current members? To be honest I'm not sure coding-out the actual list of members of the Senedd is helpful, as Llemiles has done. The article isn't titled "List of current members of the Senedd", after all. Your (Littlemonday) list is much more in keeping with the spirit of providing encylopedic information. Sionk (talk) 21:40, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Unlike, say, List of prime ministers of the United Kingdom (which by implication has to be a list of past and present office holders), this article's title does not imply its focus one way or the other. Lots of Wiki list articles contain multiple tables, and it doesn't seem to me that there is any harm here in providing both a list of present Members of the Senedd, and a list of anyone previously elected to the Assembly.
Indeed as Sionk puts it, the 2016 elected list is not a present list - there is no active list of MSs anywhere. The Current Composition section on the main Senedd Cymru article provides a long and written timeline of changes to its Current Composition. It seems to me my list fits with the article title (these are indeed members of the Senedd), and it is in the same vein as similar political lists such as List of current members of the United States House of Representatives etc.
I could move it to a new List of Current Members of the Senedd article, but that would still not resolve the fact that this article is confusingly titled, and doesn't specify whether it is a list of all-time or current day Members. Surely better to keep both tables here to cover both potential needs for readers. Llemiles (talk) 22:29, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I would vote to move it and rename what's left. How about two pages:
  1. List of current Members of the Senedd / A list of members electied in 2016 plus those who've joined since
  2. Historic list of Members of the Senedd

As Sionk has said I think my list of 142 people is useful. It's not too long too be unmanagable, even when 20-25 new names get added next year. Littlemonday (talk) 08:19, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think that was what I was trying to say, there's room for both lists, but there's no need to hide the second one. Sionk (talk) 18:24, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't disagree with this idea in principle, however wouldn't it raise issues re the 2016 article? It seems your suggestion is for three pages? Or if I've read it wrong, you're saying instead of each election has its own article, the most recent one becomes a hybrid by adding 'those who've joined since' - which arguably then changes the meaning of the article. For historical record I think it's preferable for each election page to represent the composition of the institution at the time of the result.
How about we follow the format of Lists of United Kingdom MPs and List of current United Kingdom MPs? All things considered I wonder if a separation may instead be best. This article would become the former (Lists of Welsh MS) and my addition would become a new article akin to the latter (List of current Welsh MSs). Llemiles (talk) 20:55, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Why is 'Sex' included in the table? This is atypical among office holder lists. No Swan So Fine (talk) 16:44, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have replaced the 'Sex' column with 'Portraits' to be more consistent with other office holder lists, only including the most recent *official* Senedd/Assembly portraits all in 100px height. Finecolours (talk) 03:29, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
