Scope of article[edit]

The scope of this list strikes me as strange. The WWII massacres occurred in the NDH, not Bosnia and Herzegovina. It seems to me that this list should be split up, one for massacres in the NDH and one for massacres within the borders of what became Bosnia and Herzegovina. Conflating the two is unhelpful. Zvornik[edit]

3,936 were killed from all ethnic groups; the number of Bosniak civilians killed during the entire war in Zvornik is 2,017 (this includes victims of the Srebrenica massacre killed on the territory of Zvornik municipality . 23 editor (talk) 19:40, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I find it a little strange that the entire amount of people killed from Foca, Visegrad, and Prejedor, and Zvornik are listed as if they were all killed in--hence the name of this page--massacres. It is very misleading. To list the total amount of people dead, military and civilian, and to include those killed in legitimate military operations, is indeed a very misleading endeavor. I understand that those three regions were some of the hardest hit in the war, but nonetheless it is inaccurate and entirely false to list every person killed in the region, military and civilian, as victims of--again, hence the name of this page--massacres.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 167.187.101.222 (talk) 16:43, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

On a related note, an IP undid my edits changing some of the "massacres" to "killings", claiming "Interesting that when the term "massacre" is 'overused' only when applied to incidents involving murders of Croats. Hint: When large numbers of civilians are being killed en masse, that is a massacre, it is no different than massacres that involved Bosn..."
As I pointed out this is untrue, i.e. not what I was doing (although it may have seemed that way to the IP) and that I was merely beginning by renaming redlinked entries which are not (yet) articles. However, the IP's own comment, "When large numbers of civilians are being killed en masse", unintentionally confirms that the term "massacre" is being misused or overused as some of the incidents cited involved 5 deaths, 7 deaths, etc. Even one unjustified killing or murder is too many but that has no bearing on the terminology used in describing an incident, which will reflect the biases of the editor(s) involved, by which I am referring to those editors who named certain articles in a certain way, and which others will use to describe my attempts to counter this.
On another score, perhaps the page(s) should be renamed "Massacres and unjustified killings", or else remove incidents that a majority consensus agree are inaccurately described and included as massacres. Quis separabit? 00:08, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

We follow what the reliable sources call these killings/massacres. If the reliable sources call it a massacre, that is what we call it on WP. Likewise, if the reliable sources call it a killing, we use that term. There is no need to rename the list, IMHO. WP:TITLE requires conciseness, and "unlawful killings" or similar is a weasely legalistic phrase unsuited to a list title.
