Scope of this list[edit]

Having just gone through and tidied things up a bit, I am wondering about the scope of this list. As a contributor to the 2nd AfD discussion warned, this list could, and has, turned into a big red link farm. Part of me thinks this should be pared down to actual working blue links; another part says that (sadly) there aren't that many jazz venues these days, and the list might never become unmanageably large. But more than this, I feel that the entries in this list should be notable, by which I mean the venue is mentioned in reliable sources (beyond the venue's own website, or a mention in the local paper). The All Music Guide to Jazz (or at least, the first edition) has a list of notable/historic jazz venues – this could be one such source supporting the inclusion of a particular venue in this list. • The crucial comment on the AfD was Blueswalk's: "Jazz clubs are historical locations, and their geogrpahic distribution is signifigant, since they started in an era where communication of musical ideas was taking place in these locations as much if not more than it ws on records. This is valuable to the layperson and to researchers." But it is plainly sitting as a linkfarm at the moment and not fulfilling that function. So worth (a) adding "notable" to the list purpose at the top and (b) removing everything which is not either an existing bluelink or carrying an external reference demonstrating notability. That said, it is noticeable that the associated List of jazz clubs in Paris has these aspirations and is still riddled with redlinks. AllyD (talk) 08:28, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page move[edit]

I've moved this article from List of jazz clubs to List of jazz venues as the latter is more inclusive (e.g. Carnegie Hall would more comfortably sit in a list of venues than in clubs). I suppose this might also include festivals, though we already have a separate List of jazz festivals. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 15:52, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Page split[edit]

I have split the United States section to its own list, List of jazz venues in the United States. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 19:55, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
