Defunct channesl on lists[edit]

Ok, now this list is estblaish it is not getting challange which i thought it wouldnt if i never created one for sky itself or virgin itself. I think it time to remove the hidden lists form each list and move here if already not done so. As for virgin and similar lists where the platform provided remove channels like sky basics they must remain on the list as it not a defunct channel it jsut channel being removed by the platformer provider.--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 21:49, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

new format for table and toc[edit]

i am goign to make up new format for the table and tabel of contents so that more ifnroamtion tha tis revelent can be added and information that inrevelent or less revelent can be removed--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 22:46, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

EPG Number Channel name Date Shutdown Notes
DTT Sky Digital NTL Telewest
34 Carlton Kids 2000/02/01 Timeshared with Carlton World. Replaced with Discovery Kids.
The only change appears to be the removal of the Owner/parent company column, is there any reason why this irrelevant now? It may be easier to read if the EPG numbers were moved to the end as the amount of services is the only variable. Also using colspan has broken the sort function, an explanation of what the numbers are could be included in the lead. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 13:12, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rebrands/ Replacements[edit]

I think we should also lis tthe rebranded channels on here as well as there former channels as well, but we should make a different table for them something liek this

So this would be ===Year===

2000[edit]

Ceased broadcasting[edit]
EPG Number Channel name Date Shutdown Notes
DTT Sky Digital NTL Telewest
823 B4U>Direct 2000/08/01 Financial difficulties.
Replacement[edit]
EPG Number Channel name Date Shutdown Notes
DTT Sky Digital NTL Telewest
34 Carlton Kids 2000/02/01 Timeshared with Carlton World. Replaced with Discovery Kids.
Rebrands[edit]
EPG Number Channel name Date Rebranded Rebrand Name
DTT Sky Digital NTL Telewest
34 Test 2000/02/01 Test2

Maybe the format of the pag emight be differnt btu thi is the roguh idea--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 14:18, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that it would be useful to include rebrands, they are not notable and existing channel articles are moved to the rebranded name rather than have a new page created. There also appeared to be some agreement over this when the lists were reintegrated into the List of channels on Service articles after attempting to make them separate articles. I also don't think that splitting the article further really improves the readability of the article. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 13:12, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
True i am only proposing potential otehr ways as most of the ifnormation in notes is ceased broadcasting closed down etc, the only reason i said about rebrands as it be useful to see the old channels closed then adn replae with this--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 15:33, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Totally agree with Andrew that it would be useful to include all scenarios rather than just straight closedowns.

The Scenario's I was thinking of are:

  • Channels that ceased broadcasting and went non-existent (Example:Arsenal Replay no longer exists)
  • Channels that ceased broadcasting but became a slot on another channel (Example:Super Casino now only airs on Five)
  • Channels that rebranded thus changing it's name (Example:Sky Travel became Sky Real Lives)
  • Channels that were replaced by another channel (Example:Granada Plus was replaced by ITV4)

This would make it easier to see what channels were replaced and which channels were rebranded, as well as showing which ones no longer exist in any form.Paul2387 16:32, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Define "former"[edit]

After I noticed Radio Caroline was on this list, it got me wondering. Radio Caroline has not actually closed - it is continuing to broadcast and has no intention of actually closing as far as I know. They just decided they don't want an EPG slot anymore. They give instructions on their site on how to access the channel with a Sky box, and probably Freesat too (though I haven't checked). So, can they really be said to be a "former TV channel"? 86.163.64.216 (talk) 16:49, 24 July 2011 (UTC) (Muzer not logged in)[reply]

Good point, I'm removing it though since the channel is still provided by Smallworld Cable.[1] In my opinion if it wasn't carried by any of the UK platforms it would have been nothing more than a FTA channel carried by a pan-European satellite, licensed by Ofcom.

the former list is meant for channels that do not broadcast anymore ie hasve closed or rebranded etc. this one does not sound liek it fits the bills probally got put here when it left sky and whoever added it never realised they where still broadcasting but good find :)--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 21:33, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Studio[edit]

I know it was on NTL Channel 118, but am not sure about the other networks so have left them blank. Can anyone help? Paul MacDermott (talk) 19:23, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Was it even carried on other networks? It was certainly cable-exclusive, and possibly NTL-exclusive. Bonusballs (talk) 19:37, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
From what I recall The Studio was only on ntl cable.{Rillington (talk) 08:16, 16 January 2013 (UTC)}[reply]
Paul created an article on this at The Studio (TV channel) if you want to read more. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 13:13, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Analogue channel numbers[edit]

Is there any value in having channel number columns in the Analogue section for 'British Satellite Broadcasting', 'Sky Television/Sky Multichannels' and 'Analogue Cable', given that none of those platforms had consistent national channel numbers to begin with? (Apart possibly from BSB, but since that did not carry third-party channels it seems less necessary to have it as a column heading.) Bonusballs (talk) 20:29, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It shows where the channels were available, there aren't actually any channel numbers in the table. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 13:13, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, of course - understood. Bonusballs (talk) 13:22, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
