Titanic Victims[edit]

While some victims of the Titanic sinking probably drowned, anyone even remotely aware of the disaster knows that most died of hypothermia due to the cold water as many were wearing life perservers that would have kept them afloat yet the exposure got to them before rescue ships could arrive. Thank you for the gratuitous insult, but anyone even remotely aware of the disaster also knows that the individuals I listed went down with the ship and that there is no indication that they floated in life preservers. Since you say "some victims of the sinking probably drowned," I would ask what evidence you have that these were not among them. --SteveG23 01:56, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again, no evidence exists that they drowned, ergo they cannot go on a list devoted to drowning victims. RoyBatty42 07:10, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Do you apply the same standard to Hippasus; Ptolemy XIII; William Adelin; Henry Holland, Duke of Exeter; George, Duke of Clarence; Robert Maxwell; or, of all things, Rasputin? --SteveG23 18:56, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Steve, no evidence does exist to show that any of them drowned. JJ Astor was killed when the first funnel fell, Guggenheim was on deck and spotted swimming in the water as the ship went down. As far as Ida and Isidor Straus are concerned, little exists on their fates (but with that said, nobody has produced evidence that they drowned, so we can assume they died otherwise).65.255.147.8 (talk) 22:30, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, I wasn't saying it was wrong, just that I didn't know about it, or who they were. Sorry. 173.72.201.163 (talk) 22:56, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dating[edit]

Nice list. Any thought of having the date (or at least the year) first in the item. Makes it easier to see the chronology. Didn't want to change without asking, as this seems to be a labor of love!!Teddyboy ben (talk) 23:02, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd add Joe Delaney, KC Chiefs running back, drowned circa 1983; Jacques Foutrelle (sp?), author, drowned on the Titanic; Bo Weinberg, mobster, supposedly drowned by Dutch Schultz; Henry Hudson, explorer, set adrift after a mutiny circa 1610; and the Polish national ice hockey team, which drowned in spring training.

Rework of Page[edit]

This page was scheduled for deletion due to covering different topics (presumably fictional drownings and non-fictional drownings), and also due to lack of sources. This page fits into the "popular" category Lists_of_people_by_cause_of_death, and hence it seems reasonable that the page should be fixed, not deleted. I've deleted the fictional drownings sub-list, and have started adding references. I will continue adding references, but I'm not that familiar with Wikipedia referencing style and would appreciate it if people would refine and improve my references. Where there are references on the pages of drowning victims, I will use those. In the (so far more common) case where there aren't such references, I will look for web references. It will take me some time to reference the entire list, it will not be finished by the 14th of Feb. Ross-c (talk) 11:13, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This page was proposed for deletion in 2007, but the decision was to keep it. Ross-c (talk) 11:57, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
King Magnus is IV of Sweden, and VII of Norway. I presume he was King Magnus II of a unified Sweden and Norway, but the previous link went to King Magnus II of Sweden who didn't drown. What is the best way to name this king? Ross-c (talk) 12:25, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I, Brenna Kaitlyn Concannon have an account, but have lost the password. I have added a paragraph of drownings that happened in my family in New Jersey in 1890. I thought it would be appropriate there, though I was hard ppressed to tell if any of the other events had occurred. Just look at it i can probably add information to it. 173.72.201.163 (talk) 22:51, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

List of major drowning occurrences[edit]

This list is just for individuals, but I was looking for a list of major drownings, such as in sinkings, floods, and capsizing. Where do I find that?64.53.191.77 (talk) 17:10, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
