Proposed Deletion[edit]

There are more countries in the WTO than not, so it's useful to have the non-members listed in a central place. People researching the WTO will want to know which countries are not included. I've now added references to the two lists I used to compile this list-- the list of WTO members and the list of all countries.

This would also be a useful place to link to events, controversies, and/or struggles surrounding the attempted admission or blocked admission of some of these countries into the WTO. TrashRabbit (talk) 21:05, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • British Virgin Islands, Bermuda and American Samoa are not countries but overseas territories or unicorporated territories. E. Fokker (talk) 21:15, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Macau[edit]

Macau has been a member of the World Trade Organization since January 1, 1995. Please read the table at World Trade Organization accession and membership more closely.

Also, the following are not sovereign states so their individual membership in the WTO is rather unlikely. I would delete them from the list.

  • Anguilla
  • Aruba
  • Cayman Islands
  • Curaçao
  • Falkland Islands
  • Faroe Islands
  • Gibraltar
  • Greenland
  • Guam
  • Guernsey
  • Isle of Man
  • Jersey
  • Montserrat
  • Nauru
  • Northern Mariana Islands
  • Palestinian territories
  • Puerto Rico
  • Saint Helena
  • Sint Maarten
  • Tokelau
  • Turks and Caicos Islands
  • United States Virgin Islands

I would second that... since Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands are in territories of the United States, they are technically part of the WTO, right? TANSTAAFL (talk) 18:33, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's not so simple. Some of these are separate jurisdictions in relations to trade matters (and thus can join the WTO separately from the state they are part of), others are not. Japinderum (talk) 08:49, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

observer?? not observer???[edit]

Would be nice to have these terms summarized in this article. What does it mean? Do they have any rights/responsibilities?38.100.76.228 (talk) 21:19, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
