Lonnie Smith may be a convert too. He wears a turban, beard, and mentions Sikhism in positive terms. However it is uncertain if he actually converted to Sikhism or has adopted aspects of its aesthetic for some other reason. See here and Jazz Times.--T. Anthony 14:40, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
According to Lonnie Smith's article, "He stated that the turban had no religious significance and was something he had worn since he was young". Therefore, I don't believe he identified himself as a Sikh. AnyBurro9312 (talk) 00:28, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

  • I have contributed at least 5 of the people mentioned on this Wiki article and always cite my sources. I would appreciate it if people do not delete my contributions without a very good reason. Deleting what I contribute without mentioning why is unacceptable. Stop doing this when I am trying to expand this article to be more credible and complete. Harpal2014
I don't know if Smith should or shouldn't be listed, but someone had him listed and erroneously said that he was a former Major League ball player by the same name. LOL! I corrected it. The interesting part was that the references were correct. Whoever added his name should have simply read the references that he himself cited. Given the fact of that incident and the fact that we still don't know if Dr. Lonnie Smith is an actual Sikh or just likes to dress-up as one, I'm going to take the whole list with a grain of salt.   • 3HO Sikhs should very well be listed on this page since not only are they baptized by taking Amrit or the Sikh holy nectar but at the same time are not involved in apostasy. 3HO is just a channel, and whatever be the channel, the ultimate reality is their existence as Sikhs. When they obey every tenet of Sikhism, is there any reason they shouldn't be listed here. Moreover, Sikhs are a minority religion, the converts are naturally less in number as compared to other major religions even when the new adherents to existing adherents ratio is high. But that does not disqualify them for having a list of Sikh converts. The people who suggest otherwise may not be well-versed with Sikh religion and beliefs. -Malwinder25 (talk)

Non-notable people cannot be included on this page[edit]

Ok here's the thing: you cant put in non-notable people in this list. A person must have an article on them before you can put them in. 2) Dont use some XYZ sikh partisan website as a reference. You need a reliable website or reference according to WP:RS. Well, most of the people that you just deleted were notable (family members of suicide bombers, eminent medical persons, authors, saints etc). In addition, MOST DID HAVE ARTICLES. Which entries had articles of their own? Please name them here. Notability means here they should have an article. Being a saint or suicide bomber doesnt mean they're notable. See Wikipedia:Notability (people) to see what notability is. --Matt57 (talk•contribs) 20:29, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok bro, this is nothing personal, yes the entries are accepted if people are notable, but first: before you go on to create articles on them, you have to gather reliable websites or books or other sources that report it. For example a religious website would not qualify. I'll give an example: the ex-muslim Ehsan Jami has been reported by reliable news sources etc so those sources qualify. If its some xyZ sikhReligionwins.com website, that wont qualify. If you see these conversion lists like List of former Muslims, people have removed entries who were not notable. 'Bro', my dilemma is this: the only people who generally write about Sikhs are other Sikhs, hence my over reliance on Sikh sources. It’s extremely hard to find non-Sikh (read: Western) sources that deal with the sort of people that a page like this is supposed to cover.

As for notable people, most of the people on my list were notable – to Sikhs. Granted, I chucked in a few shit ones. Sorry. I will do some article entries, so keep an eye out.Babu mann (talk) 22:46, 15 January 2008 (UTC)BabuMann[reply]

Ok then. You might want to also ask advice from Wikipedia:WikiProject Sikhism, they might have some active participants. People who've been editing sikhism related articles might be able to advise you about sources to use. --Matt57 (talk•contribs) 15:16, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just see the list of converts to Judaism, Islam etc. They are all using sources which are clearly biased. Moreover, there are ample references to the articles added onto the Sikh converts page. Why this hypocrisy with Sikhs? Just so because Sikhs are a minority religion? -Malwinder25 (talk)

Do not remove any entries as of May 2021 what may be a note worthy to one person may not be to another its all subjective. So please unless you have concrete proof to the contrary of a person not being Sikh do not delete anything. Stop with the censorship. Harpal2014 (talk) 19:59, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Alexander Gardner[edit]

According to the book, The Tartan Turban: In Search of Alexander Gardner, author John Keay mentions how Gardener lived his life as a Muslim, having traveled across the Middle East and ultimately settling in South Asia after having served in Punjab.
