Untitled[edit]

List sourced from Clements 5th edn, extant spp. only. Feel free to add anything that's missing. SP-KP 09:57, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly what constitutes this list?[edit]

Presumably, the intention of this list is to document all known bird genera. However, extinct species such as Raphus, Titanus, Hesperornis, Confuciusornis, and many others are not listed. This would make sense, assuming the list was aimed to document only extant bird genera. Nevertheless, this does not explain the inclusion of extinct genera such as Ectopistes, Pinguinus, and Dinornis. This leads me to ask the question - "What exactly is this list for?". Do extinct genera such as the dodo, or those constituting the Phorusrhacidae (terror bird) family need to be added to the list, or do extinct genera such as the moa and the great auk need to be removed, and have a separate list created to accommodate them? Unsourced tag[edit]

This article's sources are all on the other side of the linked articles, especially now that I'm sorting it by Order and Family. Jason Harvestdancer | Talk to me 17:59, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

At the very least the article's text should state the taxonomic system presented here. It's not Clements. Is it IOC version 9.1? Craigthebirder (talk) 02:28, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I got my information from the Genera links included on the page. I used Wikipedia as a reference for this list reorganization. If you click any of the genera I've already sorted, you will see verification of my placements.Jason Harvestdancer | Talk to me 19:51, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Then that should be stated in the text. A reader shouldn't have to guess at how to find the source of the information. Craigthebirder (talk) 21:42, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, but that doesn't mean it is Unsourced. Jason Harvestdancer | Talk to me 04:41, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I did my part, I'm done. You can do what you want with it. Jason Harvestdancer | Talk to me 03:50, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
