Totals don't work[edit]

Someone needs to have a look at the awards table, it has it winning more than it's being nominated for. I can't seem to see the vandalism straight off. Canterbury Tail talk 15:20, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think nominated means it didn't win. 117Avenue (talk) 23:03, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed split[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
Consensus to split into separate articles for Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High, and Degrassi: The Next Generation, to move the awards won by the other two series to their respective pages, and to move the franchise-wide awards and nominations to Degrassi#Accolades. @ToQ100gou, Mathmitch7, and PanagiotisZois: Implementing the split involves working through the individual lists, since the content is currently scattered across the page, so your support would be very much appreciated! Felix QW (talk) 09:57, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I propose that this page be split into separate articles for each series. List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi Junior High, List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi High, List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi: The Next Generation and List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi: Next Class, while renaming this page to List of awards and nominations received by The Kids Of Degrassi Street. The list is way too long and quite convoluted, especially when the amount of awards and nominations received by Degrassi Junior High (twenty awards, six nominations) and Degrassi: The Next Generation (fifty seven awards, seventy five nominations) are enough to warrant their own articles. And the fact that it's sorted by awards and not by series, while not necessarily wrong, makes this article a bit hard to follow for such a large television franchise. Furthermore, each series has sources to back up their awards to kickstart each respective page. If consensus is against splitting The Kids Of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High's awards, then they can just be reproduced as prose on their respective articles instead. ToQ100gou (talk) 04:54, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Agree to splitting out the Degrassi Junior High Degrassi High, and Degrassi: The Next Generation awards for sure since they're the most numerous. I think moving awards won by the other two series to those series' articles makes more sense as well, just since there are fewer of them. Some of the awards were given to the franchise as a whole, and I think those would then be moved to Degrassi#Accolades, along with links to the other articles and sections. - - mathmitch7 (talk/contribs) 15:02, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@ToQ100gou: I definitely think that, at the very least, Degrassi: The Next Generation could have its own individual list. --PanagiotisZois (talk) 15:37, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Now there is consensus on splitting[edit]

@Mathmitch7 and PanagiotisZois: As I stated in the proposal, each series has enough sources to effectively kickstart each individual page, but a lot of them are simply from archived award databases that I'm not sure are acceptable sources today. Should we create each page now with what is already sourced and go from there or should we start in draftspace and improve upon them to fit 2023 WP standards first? ToQ100gou (talk) 10:47, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The latter would certainly be preferable! Felix QW (talk) 11:55, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is often the issue with splitting lists, that although from a navigational standpoint splitting would undoubtably help, notability is spread thinner as more sublists are spun off. Felix QW (talk) 11:56, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, absolutely. Having spent many months browsing through newspaper archives, this would be the ideal place to start, especially for the pre-internet series (Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High). I know for certain there are news articles of those series winning awards. ToQ100gou (talk) 13:24, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also think that creating individual lists in draftspace would be the better option. Ideally, finding secondary sources that discuss the nominations / wins are better than primary ones. Especially for awards that are somewhat obscure; unlike the Emmys, for example. Having said that, I'm not sure if every single series should have its own list. I mean, for example, The Kids of Degrassi Street was nominated for only about 10 awards; not exactly enough to warrant its own list. The one I personally would be most interested in working one is one for The Next Generation. --PanagiotisZois (talk) 14:10, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Kids of Degrassi Street's awards can definitely go on its main page. I'm thinking Degrassi Junior High could have its own page. Degrassi High's awards can probably go on its main page too, same with Degrassi: Next Class. Co-creator Linda Schuyler's recent memoir Mother of All Degrassi includes a list of every award won by the franchise, so we could use that as a starting point and then try and find adequate secondary sources for each if possible. ToQ100gou (talk) 08:10, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that's a good idea. I'd recommend—cause I'm biased—that we start with a draft article for The Next Generation and copypaste all of the relevant awards from here onto there. Ideally find secondary, reliable sources for each one; if not available, we can just use the primary sources or the book. And, of course, if the book includes any awards that aren't listed here, you can add those there. Would you prefer that we start with DJH instead? --PanagiotisZois (talk) 13:00, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Created this Draft:List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi: The Next Generation page. --PanagiotisZois (talk) 14:39, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I didn't get back to you in time. Seeing as you have created a draft for TNG I could probably help with the lede and some other things but I admit I'm much more knowledgeable about DJH and DH having researched it a lot throughout 2021 and 2022. ToQ100gou (talk) 13:05, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No need to apologize. Wikipedia is voluntary and you have your own life to get to. --PanagiotisZois (talk) 13:57, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's all good! I created a draft for DJH as well, you can find it here: Draft:List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi Junior High. I did a count in Mother of All Degrassi since it's an official source and that series won at least 37 awards and not the 20 that I originally estimated. Nothing on nominations though. A big issue I have had in Degrassi research, especially to do with the classic trilogy, is that it's hard to find accurate information and statistics, which is strange considering the accolades it got and the high regard of which it is spoken.
