Gold Derby TV Awards[edit]

Are we going to keep or remove the section for the Gold Derby TV Awards? I think this issue needs to be settled before people keep adding and removing it. I know the awards are have been around for a while, but I don't know enough about Gold Derby to know if they are noteworthy enough for inclusion. Pinging Brojam, who removed the awards in this edit, and I've left a message for the anonymous editor who re-added it. I think (could be wrong on the details) Gold Derby is a prediction site whose awards are partially an attempt to guess what the Emmys will be like, and the awards are based on public votes, two signs that it's perhaps not a significant award, but it is long-running and probably not the least well-known award. — Bilorv (talk) 20:22, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

After looking at featured lists for TV show awards, the consensus seems mixed but skews towards not including it. 30 Rock, Arrested Development, and Parks and Recreation don't include it, but Black Mirror and American Horror Story do. RunningTiger123 (talk) 21:09, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, well I'm removing it from Black Mirror since I've been the main person maintaining the page, and I think we should remove it here too. Awards don't have to be notable for us to list them, I believe, but it's one indicator, and it's more the comments made at AfD about Gold Derby Awards that make me lean towards removal. — Bilorv (talk) 18:18, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Another potential awards source (?)[edit]

The Pan-American Association of Film & Television Journalists gave out awards to television shows, including Community, for several years. Update: Along similar lines, should we consider any of the following awards: Banff Rockie Awards, Behind the Voice Actors Awards, IGN Summer Movie Awards, or Online Film & Television Association? Yeah, I looked at these earlier and chose not to add any, but I may have judged one too quickly. Let's go through them:

PPAF&TJ doesn't seem to have garnered secondary sources, really, and the wordpress site isn't a good sign.
Banff is a festival that's been running for 40 years ("Cancelling the festival after 41 years of success ...") and according to Variety, "This year’s Grand Jury comprises of 150 international industry professionals", which sounds fairly good. There's consistent coverage in Variety and Hollywood Reporter going back a few years e.g. [1][2]. I'm leaning towards inclusion.
Not seeing any significant coverage of Behind the Voice.
IGN is a reliable source but I don't think their Summer Movie Awards are significant as an award.
Not seeing any significant coverage in reliable sources of OF&TA and I remember a user removing them at List of awards and nominations received by Black Mirror on probably quite sound grounds.

I agree that all of the awards except Banff (EDIT: and IGN) don't have significant secondary coverage (including Gold Derby from above). I don't think that including those awards would be a major issue if we provided valid citations (which would definitely be possible for all of those awards), but they also aren't strictly necessary. We also look for secondary coverage to show significance, rather than just verifiability; I could run a blog and verifiably have given Community an award, but coverage in news media is needed to show that it's a meaningful award in the industry of television.

My mistake — I thought I recalled some secondary sources that mentioned IGN's awards, but I couldn't find them and I may just be misremembering. On a different note, I was able to track down some additional information on the episodes submitted for Banff, but since I couldn't find them for every nomination in the category (2012's nominations are missing on Internet Archive due to Javascript errors), I put the details I could find into notes.
