single season leaders[edit]

Shouldn't we wait until the end the season to update those single-season records that might be lost as the season progresses? For example, James Shields is now the franchise record holder for complete games and shutouts in a season, and he can't lose that distinction no matter what happens in 2011. If he picks up a few more, just update the total and the info is accurate.

However, while James is also the current leader in single-season ERA, WHIP, and several other categories, he might not hold those records if he has a rough stretch. If that happens, somebody will have to dig back into the page history to find and restore the old record holder's name and numbers.

Also, to keep this article accurate, somebody is going to have to come back and update all those peripheral numbers every 5 days. Fast fluctuating stats like ERA and WHIP are especially hard to keep updated since they change throughout a ballgame. (Actually, WHIP changes with every single at-bat.) It's only June; there are a whole lot of at-bats left to go in the 2011.

I'm thinking we should restore the single-season ERA, WHIP, and BB and hits allowed per/9 to their former holders for now and revisit them at the end of the season. Thoughts? Zeng8r (talk) 18:12, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm inclined to agree. It's easy to update stats that only increase (complete games, hits, stolen bases, etc.) but I doubt anyone is going to keep an eye on the rate-based stats on a game-to-game basis. Tampabay721 (talk) 06:03, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and restored the old records in those categories for now. Hopefully we can update them again in October. Zeng8r (talk) 12:46, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fernando Rodney[edit]

There wasn't already a listing for the best Ray's reliever's ERA, but since Rodney's 0.60 is also a MLB record, it definitely needed a mention here, imo. So I added it, but I'm not sure if the formatting works as-is. Feel free to tweak the description or whatever, anybody... Zeng8r (talk) 20:18, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
