Split articles[edit]

I propose deleting this article, and creating articles for Niall and Liam, the only two members or former members who do not have articles. I find it absurd people have honestly claimed each member does not deserve an article, despite the virtually endless number of sources. How can all Members of Parliament and Olympians be inherently notable, but people who feature in millions of sources, and generate millions of search queries not be notable? It seems to be some form of anti-teen pop phenomenon. Each member unquestionably meets WP:GNG. AusLondonder (talk) 03:30, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree with this. It is preposterous at this point that 3 out of 5 members have separate pages, which were created before they even showed any notoriety outside the band as a whole. Beecee14 (talk) 21:46, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Louis is expecting a child with Briana Jungwirth. I noticed this isn't shown on the page. Cheshirecatluv21 (talk) 05:00, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: as you have not requested a specific change in the form "Please replace XXX with YYY" or "Please add ZZZ between PPP and QQQ".
More importantly, you have not cited reliable sources to back up your request, without which no information should be added to, or changed in, any article. - Arjayay (talk) 08:22, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Petition to Create Separate Page for Liam Payne[edit]

According to Wikipedia's own guidelines, Payne does meet the notability standards, yet somehow he still has not been given a separate page. In addition to which, two other members have, could someone please explain to me how that is? Where is the supposed unbiased practices of Wikipedia? There are hundreds of thousands of articles focused on Payne as an individual both in regards to solo work, charitable work, awards won as an individual, media attention, etc. In fact, just today international multibillion dollar corporation Burger King returned an item to their menu and even packaged it in the form of Payne's tattoos (just a minor example of his star power), now I realize this is a silly example, but it just goes to show how big of a name and impact Payne has, yet he still remains as a redirect.[1][2] If this petition is denied, could I at least be granted to information as to what exactly it would take to consider Payne notable? Especially since he is the only member of the band, who actually appeared as an individual act on a season of X factor (of which most other finalists have their own person wikipedia pages, even though they are far less notable than Payne). I would very much appreciate if you took this petition into consideration. Thank you. Beecee14 (talk) 03:17, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and I think that Liam's recent cover of Attitude (which makes no mention of the band, although obviously he talks about it in the article)[3] makes it even more clear he has notability as an individual. Infiniteparentheses (talk) 15:25, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Petition to Create Separate Page for Niall Horan[edit]

Now that Liam Payne has his own page, I've been wondering why Niall Horan's section is so short, and why he's the only member of the group without his own page. While he may be the least popular member of the group - he gets the least number of search engine hits, anyway - my impression is that notability standards are based on all the possible people or subjects in the world, not on the relative notability between people in a group. Whatever standards used to make Payne's and the others' pages seem to apply to Horan as well.

For example, his current section includes no mention his relationships with people like Rory McIlroy, Marvin and Rochelle Humes, Justin Bieber, Neymar, Niall Breslin, or others. He's also made individual headlines recently for his foot injury, his response to having water thrown at him while playing guitar, and his suitability to be the next James Bond. Leaving out his knee problems seems like a major oversight, too.

I'm not saying all of the above information should be included in his page. However, I think the number of headlines, from a variety of (fairly credible) sources, across a range of topics, point to Horan's individual notability. I'm also not nominating myself to make his page - I still feel like a newbie editor, and I don't have the time or patience to create a whole new page - but hopefully other editors are interested and willing to take on the work. Infiniteparentheses (talk) 23:24, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Strongly agree Anyone claiming Horan is not notable deserves to be laughed at. How can all Members of all Parliaments (national and regional) in the world be inherently notable but Horan not? AusLondonder (talk) 23:39, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed additions to Niall's section[edit]

Hi everyone, I'm doing a project on Niall Horan's section of this wiki, and I have several changes/additions to propose for his page. Here are a few of the things I would like to add, with some preliminary sources for the content:

What do you guys think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Em9426 (talkcontribs) 19:09, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think three out of four of these additions are great, and the last two in particular are sorely needed. The only one I'm not sure about is the Action 1D involvement - I don't see how this is specifically relevant to him. If you wanted to add information about Action 1D, it seems like a much better fit for One Direction's main page. Infiniteparentheses (talk) 15:22, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

These additions would be great. However, I saw that a couple of the posted sources were about one of the members possibly being the reason Burger King brought back chicken fries, I am grateful if he is the reason, but a little confused about why they would be useful or if they are even reliable sources. Make sure to not speak with bias and that none of your sources are full of bias. Great work though, I agree his section needs work. --Joshewuh2 (talk) 21:08, 8 November 2015 (UTC)Joshewuh2[reply]

It's great that you're keeping an eye out for quality sources, but in this case I think the criticism is a little misguided. Those chicken fries links are not Em9426's, and they are referencing a different member (Liam Payne). While I wouldn't say all the links listed above are the best (IMDb is not a reliable source, although citing This is Us without that link seems fine to me), overall, sources like MTV, The Guardian, and official CD booklets are good. Infiniteparentheses (talk) 20:01, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Creation of Niall Horan article[edit]

Niall Horan quite obviously meets WP:GNG upon a quick web search engine query. I suspect that the opposition to the article's creation is based on dislike for One Direction and the culture associated with the group.--Prisencolin (talk) 17:39, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree. I cannot see why he doesn't have his own article yet. This 'list' would be pointless though, I suppose, if he did. Spiderone 22:12, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Of course he should have an article. He's the only member who doesn't have one yet. Unreal7 (talk) 21:22, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think he can have an article now too. And he does. AnemoneProjectors 20:56, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Article not needed?[edit]

Now that all members have standalone articles, is this article actually needed now? I propose to redirect it to One Direction. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:45, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have boldly redirected to One Direction as proposed above. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:39, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I concur. AnemoneProjectors 15:45, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
