Layout[edit]

In its current form, I would like to see this page look a little bit more like Chicago Bears seasons, which is currently a Wikipedia featured list. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 03:54, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree Zzyzx11 on your assessment of what a seasons page should look like. I'll attempt to put something together that resembles what is on the Bears page. It would be nice to keep some of the other information currently on this page such as team leaders, coaches, etc., since it is useful information, but in another section of the article. Division Title numbers need correction[edit]

It states in the Wikipedia article that the Vikings have won 16 division titles since their inception compared to 17 division titles for the Bears and 19 division titles for the Packers during that period.

This is wrong. Here is the break-out of division titles since the inception of the Minnesota Vikings:

Vikings: 17 Division Titles ('68,'69,'70,'71,'73,'74,'75,'76,'77,'78,'80,'89,'92,'94,'98,'00,and '08),

Bears: 9 Division Titles ('84,'85,'86,'87,'88,'90,'01,'05,and '06)

Packers: 9 Division Titles ('67,'72,'95,'96,'97,'02,'03,'04,and '07)

Lions: 3 Division Titles ('83,'91,and '93)

Bucs: 3 Division Titles ('79,'81,and '99)

Strike Season: No Division Title ('82)

No Divisions: therefore No Division Titles ('61 thru '66)

Updates[edit]

Per WP:WAX, saying "other articles have updated to the end of the regular season" is not a valid argument. If we start updating the article every time something happens, where do we draw the line? WP:WIAFL states that a featured list (which this list is) must be stable (criterion 6) and not change significantly from day to day. That means that we can't update after every game, which User:MR.Texan281 seems to be suggesting for the playoffs; therefore, the best solution is to hold off on updating the list until after the season is completely over, i.e. after the Super Bowl. – PeeJay 01:28, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly, updating once a week is not nearly enough to make this list unstable. The baseball playoffs update after each series, and the regular season goes in once it's complete. There's no real reason not to update this. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 12:51, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think the guys currently running WP:FLC might disagree with you there. During a recent FLC discussion for an association football seasons list, there were a couple of "Oppose" votes on the basis that people were trying to update the article after every game. So who's to say whether, if this list got taken to WP:FLRC, it wouldn't be subject to similarly strict interpretation of WP:WIAFL criterion 6? – PeeJay 19:26, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I work pretty regularly at FLC, and I'm aware of the criterion. Furthermore, this list just went through an FLRC and was updated to the current standards at that time (I worked heavily on that FLRC). The regular season record can't change once the season is over, so there is no reason that the regular season record can't be included. Soccer clubs regularly play more than once a week because they have multiple assorted cups and competitions in which they participate. It's fairly widely accepted that once-a-week updates do nothing to disrupt the stability of a list that has so few points in it. The NFL season is 17 game-weeks long, and one of those is a bye-week for each team. If a team plays in all three rounds of the playoffs and the Super Bowl, that's a maximum of 20 updates per season, less than one-half update per week. The stability issue, in terms of sports lists, refers more to lists like baseball and basketball seasons, where the teams play three, four, or even up to seven and eight games in a week.
