Driver[edit]

Should we include a driver's team? Because like this year Hamilton is not racing for Ferrari, to show to those new to this sport it can happen, and how often it did, I dunno how often Yosef1987 (talk) 20:18, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We might as well. Lately the entries for 1999 and 2008 (where winning driver and winning constructor where not part of the same team) have been edited 5 or 6 times! Oddly enough, the wrong edit were made by anonymous contributors... --Mau (talk) 01:51, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I meant add a 3rd column for the driver's team, a good idea? Yosef1987 (talk) 14:01, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could perhaps put the driver's team in brackets after their name. Having a separate column for this might get confused with the constructors' champion column. Also, as mentioned above, the entry for 1999 is still incorrect. It currently reads as McLaren when in fact Ferrari won this year - see the list of constructor champions page etc.--Aremberg (talk) 12:31, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've fixed the 1999 Constructors' Champion. DH85868993 (talk) 09:01, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Team Names[edit]

What is really meant by team (the part in brackets after driver names)? There are a few here that I would describe as questionable by various definitions. Leaving sponsorship names aside, the "team" that entered BRM cars was called "Owen Racing Organisation", but Graham Hill's 1962 team is BRM. Similarly, the Brabham team became "Motor Racing Developments" in 1969, so should Piquet's 1981 and '83 wins list that? On the other hand, Jackie Stewart's 1969 win is listed as "Tyrrell" which is in one sense going in the other direction, but is not even factually correct. The team name was Matra International, and it wasn't until during 1970 when the Tyrrell team split from Matra. Also a little more obscure but still important I think if you want "team" is that two of John Surtees' races (1964) were for the North American Racing Team (NART). I think the most sensible thing to do is change just the 1964 and 1969 to (Ferrari/[North American Racing Team|NART]) and ([Matra International|Matra]) since the other two are probably more widely accepted as they are. I'd be interested to see what others think, but for the moment I will make the two changes I've suggested here. A7V2 (talk) 03:32, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Short description[edit]

@DH85868993: with reagrds to your recent revert, do yo not feel that WP:SDNONE applies?
SSSB (talk) 09:52, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SSSB: Ah, OK, I didn't realise that's what {{Short description|none}} does - I thought it would display a short description of "none", which I thought wasn't very helpful. (I'll also add that I didn't notice that it was you who added it; if I had I probably would have asked you about it rather than just removing it). However, I note that article also contains {{short description|Wikipedia list article}}, so I think if we want to add {{Short description|none}} then {{short description|Wikipedia list article}} should probably be removed. @DH85868993: - huh, didn't notice that (pre-coffee editing). Frankly, I think that that short description is as useful as not having one at all. This is wikipedia and the title already makes clear that it's a list. So I don't suppose it really matters.
SSSB (talk) 13:57, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@SSSB: I completely agree about the non-usefulness of {{short description|Wikipedia list article}}. There's no objection from me if you want to replace {{short description|Wikipedia list article}} with {{Short description|none}}. DH85868993 (talk) 07:49, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
