I'll outline my intentions for this. Ages ago I tried to make sure there was a page for each commission portfolio, and hoped they'd grow. That has largely been fa failure and the articles are limp at best, usually filled with a Commissioner's mission statement and a list of office holders. For no other body does Wikipedia seek an article for every single minister/secretary etc. and considering that they change from one administration to the next that is wise. What I'd like to do is put the information on this one page and merge the articles into it except where the article actually stands alone. i.e. if the article is rubbish then it is merged, if it is good it is kept so I am not proposing to kill every single one, only the crap ones. Overview info, current commissioner, DG, list of commissioners and any other worth notes will go here. The "current commissioner" info will me shifted to that Commissioners bio where it ought to be. If you object to this, or would like to highlight articles that you think need to be kept because they are, or you think you can make them, full worthy articles, please say so now. No replies yet so I'll put another round of comments on talk pages before I act, but the page here is essentially ready. Relevant info on all pages are wither here or on the persons page. Anything remaining is fluff I put in to pad it out - such as who their head of office was. I reiterate the arguments above and propose these be the only portfolios with independent articles;

  • Enlargement and ENP
  • External Aff.
  • Trade
  • Competition
  • Agriculture
Borderline;
  • Home Affairs
  • Justice
  • Financial and Monetary Affairs
  • Energy
  • Environment
  • Internal market

Oh and I would certainly like to merge in the Multilingualism, Health and Consumer Protection articles regardless of the proposals above. They are all defunct and minor. Improved with what? No one attempts this level of detail for any other country, and nation states centuries old can't get enough detail. They keep changing titles, merging and splitting, each commission anyway so every now and then a huge chunk of data becomes a defunct article or an organisational headache. The United States attempts this level of detail. Other countries change cabinet positions / gov. departments etc., look at the UK changes in gov. departments since 1997. I would think that the Commissioner for Climate Action is notable enough for its own article. When a title is changed or defunct, then the article becomes historic not useless. The portfolios changes are of great importance, they are not small details. In EU, it shapes greatly the political agenda and the way issues are treated, specially when topics are new (at EU level, not in itself) : e.g. if Migration issues are located in a DG and fights against discrimination are located in another DG. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find information as the DG themselves do not document changes (or at least not in a friendly way :). And literature can be scarce for DG of less importance. By the way , EU is not a country, so I don't see the point of comparison with UK.
