Dreamcast VCD Player[edit]

There is an entry in the list for "Dreamcast VCD Player". This needs more detail and possibly to be split up, as I believe there were a few different commercial VCD players.

WP:VG Assessment[edit]

  • Don't reference Google image search. Reference individual game covers.
  • Get rid of the HUGE amount of red links - and no, don't go and create stub articles. Basically, every red link will need a non-list (i.e.: a page specifically about the game, like a review by a notable gaming website) reference stating the notability for inclusion - the notability for games already on Wikipedia (and thus have a 'blue link') should be established on the article about the respective games (not here). Wikipedia doesn't list every silly flash game for Windows, so a list as this should be kept to the at least somewhat popular titles -> Listcruft.

Resolving red links a larger project, though I'm not sure why the incompleteness of other portions of Wikipedia effect the status of this list. One source to flush out the numerous unlisted Japanese games is the Japanese Wikipedia site. Here's a list of titles they cover but are absent in English:

Handling of Games with Multiple Names[edit]

There are a number of games with varying names depending on their region. Their name variations place them at different alphabetic locations in the list so listing them as a single item seems problematic, but listing them separately seems to go against having a single line per game.

There is some similar discussion on the main "List of Games" discussion, but no clear decision around how to handle. Kolano 02:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One other thing to consider here is that games do not always share release dates between regions. Some way to clearly indicate that would be good. I'd suggest removing the "Year" and "Release Date" columns and replacing with a three release date columns, one per region. Kolano (talk) 17:08, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Non-Games/Unreleased games?[edit]

The Dreamcast had a few titles that would not be classified as "games". For instance:

  • Web Browsers:"Broadband Passport Web Browser"
  • Video Players: "Dreamcast VCD Player"
  • Email App: Hello Kitty: Otonaru Mail (へーロキティ音なるメール)
  • Magazine Pack-in Disks: Dreamon 1-22, Dorimaga, Dreamcast Express 1-7
  • Various Bleamcast titles

To my thinking it comes down to if this is a list of "games" or a list of "titles". Having a complete list of titles seems like a good idea, even if this isn't it.Kolano 04:38, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese Titles[edit]

I have added a near complete set of Kanji titles for Japanese games. Though this should be an English language resource, having the Kanji helps clearly identify Japaneses titles preventing duplication of games with multiple English translations. Though certain Japanese releases simply have English names, there are a few Japanese releases I suspect have Kanji titles that I have thus far been unable to find/work out. Investigation into filling these gaps would be appreciated. To help with this here's a list of Japanese titles missing Kanji some with the Kanji shown but not shown as text, please update as we make progress on this:

The set of Kanji titles used to clearly distinguish Japanese titles appears to have been purged from this article. I'm uncomfortable with this as in many cases there are multiple "English" translations of titles, so the ones used may not clearly identify entries. Kolano (talk) 01:38, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting up the article[edit]

The whole article is very large and an not the cleanest looking thing, is it at all possible to create three articles with each only relevant to those games released in its region?

We could, but it would mean maintaining information on games released to multiple regions in multiple places which seems prone to result in misalignment amongst the information provided. It just needs to be smaller, not "cleaner". I think that the article should be divided into List of English region Dreamcast games and List of Non-English region Dreamcast games

If someone could do that, there is no real need for further discussion, as the page is obviously much too long.

Primarily because then the list can only be sorted by name. Currently it can be appropriately sorted by: name, year, developer, publisher, and region; which provides a variety of analysis not possible in a split format. Such could still be provided in a split format but rather than one page there many would be needed (/w duplicate entries), which would become difficult to maintain.Kolano (talk) 04:34, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Games[edit]

Here is a small list of games which are absent from the list but should be in it:

So as you can see there are still many games missing.

I've added the missing items listed, though some of them are not "missing". Some have different names across regions. For example "Buggy Heat" is known as "TNN Motorsports Hardcore Heat" and is included as such (see section regarding games with multiple names above). Genre clean up needed[edit]

Me and user got engaged in edit war over how Genre was formatted, reasons appear to be relating to words wrapped into brackets to become like other wikilinks, and that considered to be overlinking and many have reintroduce to disambiguation pages. More importantly, it's still in need of cleanup and these problems will be sorted out. I don't think I fully understand how genre works but I feel that it's not how genre works. Overlinking / excessive number of links to disambiguation pages[edit]

I would request more eyes on the edits of User:Rukario-sama. To my opinion, this user is repeatedly and deliberately overlinking the article. And not only that, he is also adding an excessive number of links to disambiguation pages (already several time 45+ links). To my opinion, that is no constructive editing. Fixing publishing from the Japanese releases[edit]

Genres are a mess[edit]

Silver is not a shooter, it's a hack-and-slash. Bangai-O is not a Rail shooter, it's a 2D shooter. Spawn is not a shooter, it's a hack-and-slash. Convert to table[edit]
