Alphabet "bookmarks"[edit]

Is there any way to add "bookmarks" to this table, such that people could click on "a,b,c.." etc at the top of the page, and be transported to the appropriate letter in the alphabet? Seems a bit much to need to scroll all the way down to "t" or something like that. BLGM5 (talk) 18:55, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Changed to be sorted by year?[edit]

Can this be changed to be sorted by year? Or perhaps a new articles started where it's sorted like that?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.38.196.165 (talk) 17:45, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorting should be working now, including by year. You click the arrows next to each header ("Title", "Year", "Awards", "Nominations") and it will sort alphanumerically. BOVINEBOY2008 03:37, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Award-winning films?[edit]

Why are The Hindenburg (1975), King Kong (1976), Logan's Run (1976), Return of the Jedi (1983 and Superman (1978) in the list with 0 awards? Hmm, I just noticed they all got a "Special Achievement Award", but shouldn't there be something else than a zero in the "Awards" column? Makes no sense to me. 85.217.38.67 (talk) 19:01, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So, here we have to consider what we mean by the word "win". The column shows only the number of awards won in competitive categories. But the list overall extends beyond those categories, to include special non-competitive awards granted by the Academy. In common parlance, we might say those films "won" those special awards. So, we have a confusion. Those films you mentioned are in the list because they "won" special awards, but are not counted in the column because they did not win any awards in competitive categories.
We don't spell this distinction out, and we should. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 19:28, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Missing films[edit]

Many films are missing from this list - right off the bat I notice that the short films from 2012 are missing and the foreign film from 2010 is missing... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.84.27.254 (talk) 13:22, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Great Gatsby 2013 had two awards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.67.0.100 (talk) 19:06, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Films[edit]

Are there any criteria for inclusion in this article's list? In other words, what type of films does this article extend to? For example, does it include short films and all of those other categories of films that are awarded Oscars? Does it include all films, of any type?

These are the seven categories of films (at least, for the 86th Academy Awards):

  1. Best Picture
  2. Best Animated Feature
  3. Best Foreign Language Film
  4. Best Documentary – Feature
  5. Best Documentary – Short Subject
  6. Best Live Action Short Film
  7. Best Animated Short Film

Above and beyond that list of seven above, there are the following considerations (as well as some others that I am likely forgetting):

  1. Honorary Awards
  2. Special Awards
  3. Scientific and Technical Awards
  4. Student Academy Awards
  5. Perhaps other categories of films from the previous 85 awards ceremonies (i.e., film categories that have been discontinued and are now obsolete)

Can someone please clarify what this list does (and does not) include; or, better yet, what it should (and should not) include? It would seem to me that some/many of the above categories of films are not really included in this list; they don't "count". If so, perhaps we need some prefatory statement at the beginning of the article? Thoughts? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 21:28, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorting errors[edit]

The table has some sorting errors. In particular, when I sort by the number of awards, I wanted to see which films had won the most awards. They should appear at the top of the sort (films like Ben Hur, Titanic, etc.). However, the sort does not work. When the award amount was a number like 10, 11, or 12 (or such), those values sort in between the 1 and the 2 (as opposed to being greater than the 9). Thus, one can never see which films won the most awards. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 21:53, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I guess writing {{0}} in front of every one digit number would solve the problem. At least that's the way we solve such problems in the German Wikipedia. Hopefully, that works here, too. --Jobu0101 (talk) 17:15, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Missing films[edit]

This list is missing the films listed below. Or, perhaps these re not listed in correct alphabetical order. Either way, I was not able to find them. Can someone please double-check whether they are in the list or not; and, if not, add them in?

Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 22:14, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please ignore the above post. Those films all received nominations, but won no awards. Therefore, they should rightly be excluded from this list. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 22:18, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Think the article should be split into 2?[edit]

You know for films A-M and N-Z? Wgolf (talk) 00:03, 31 March 2014 (UTC) And no film starting with the letter X has been nominated for anything it seems, wow. Well of course its not a letter that is used a lot, but still interesting....[reply]

Add film[edit]

Please add this film: Folies Bergère de Paris. I don't want to mess up the Chart. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 21:07, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Academy Awards which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 13:18, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Weird default order[edit]

List starts in reverse chronological order and by 1965 changes to alphabetical order. Why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.213.42.77 (talk) 10:08, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just checking[edit]

Total number of awards associated with a film: 1,948 Competitive + 46 Honorary
Total number of nominations associated with a film: 4,403
Total number of Oscar Statuettes awarded: 2,810 Competitive + 49 Honorary = 2,859 in total

I presume the extra Oscar Statuettes (2,810 - 1,948) are due to collaborative awards (musicians, writers, producers).

I presume the nomination count (4,403) is only for films on this list (ie films that actually won at least 1). I imagine Total nominations would be c10,000?
