Cause of death isn't sure yet.

The sidebar said his cause of death was a xanax overdose. The toxology reports aren't in yet, the only source we have says he died of Suspected Overdose, Medical Examiner Says. I don't know if how I put it is the right way to phrase it, but we can't just say he died for sure from a xanax OD. Romeowth (talk) 13:14, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

Done. While I know BLP covers recently deceased people, it's still not likely we'll get sued for getting the type of drug wrong, especially given the word "suspected" and the fact that the source, Pitchfork, quotes the medical examiner. Nevertheless, Pitchfork makes sure to say "that it will be six to eight weeks before toxicology results are available to help determine a definitive cause of death" so removing this as unsourced and unknowable is fine. CityOfSilver 17:00, 2 December 2017 (UTC)
My concern is not so much a lawsuit as it is to have a quality article that conforms to Wikipedia standards, rather than a vandalized article that is a hackneyed amalgam of whatever edits by one-off editors slipped by the established guys. A good article conforms to the sources and observes a neutral point of view in spite of controversy, fake news, and current events. I thank you for helping me out with this minor change. This most recent edit by @Jcremo24: is extremely deficient. The first change makes for an awkward redundant passage and can be changed from "with his death believed to be from an overdose. A few days later it was confirmed to have been a drug overdose." to "from what was later confirmed to be a drug overdose." The second addition (about thousands of people on social media) is completely unsourced and, frankly, simply trivia that is hardly unique or notable about this subject. It needs to be deleted ASAP per WP:BLP. Thanks! 2600:8800:1880:C359:5604:A6FF:FE38:4B26 (talk) 13:33, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Done already by User:MrBill3, who just reverted it. Cause of Death

I'd just edit this myself, but the page is semi-protected. Alprazolam (Xanax) is not an opiate pain medication (as classing it together with Fentanyl would suggest), but rather an anti-anxiety medication of the benzodiazepine class. I'm likely stating the obvious, but to ingest the two at once is profoundly inadvisable. 108.34.180.43 (talk) 15:37, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Alprazolam (Xanax) 'Pain Medication'

The article states, "certifying the cause of death was an accidental overdose due to the effects of the pain medications fentanyl and alprazolam", making the erroneous assertion that Alprazolam, a benzodiazepine anxiolytic prescription drug is a pain medication, which could be misunderstood by readers to mean that Alprazolam belongs to the same opioid class of pain medications as Fentanyl.

In addition, the same piece of text implies that the drugs were being used as a pain medications. As I understand it, Lil Peep unintentionally ingested Fentanyl, through consuming counterfeit Xanax pills that had been cut with the deadly opioid, in addition to the consumption of several other opioid drugs.

Mention should probably be made somewhere (perhaps in the opening blurb) of Peep's name being stylized as "LiL PEEP." This stylizing was used on a lot of his earlier projects, though Come Over When You're Sober Pt. 1 and other newer releases seem to elect to leave his name as simply "Lil Peep." - LesStudios (talk) 22:45, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Genres

So with the edit war that was going on regarding the genres, I think we should clear things up here to avoid taking it any further. I definitely think rap rock and emo pop should at least be considered as additions. There isn't many sources or reviews in general for Peep's music so we are limited on sources. His album was labeled as rap rock in a review but I saw on the talk page that this wasn't a good enough reason to add the genre. Although I do understand that, that album is nowhere near the only music of his that can be considered that genre, despite the lack of sources labeling his music. I think anyone who listens to peep even a little bit can agree with this. Now for emo pop, while its not the genre he makes the most, I would argue that a good amount of his music can fall under that category. For example, "Spotlight", "Falling Down/Sunlight on your Skin", "Yesterday", "Big City Blues", "The Brightside", "Awful Things", etc. --Sromero78 (talk) 05:50, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Uf anything, it would be Alt. Emo not Emo Pop, Spotlight is the exception here but that's also a remix and not the original song, so even then it still probably falls under 'Hip-Hop/Rap' more than Emo Pop. GOTHANGELSINNER (talk) 22:04, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Pop Punk

Having seen that there was problems with my original addition of pop punk as a genre even though it was sourced, I've decided to make another discussion as recommended. I don't think it's fair to say since the album was described as pop punk that doesn't mean peep is that genre, since he does only have 2 albums to his name that have been properly reviewed by legit sources. Peep has a lot of older music that can fall under this genre, but again, it's never been properly reviewed. Not to mention he is constantly being described as a mixture of pop punk and hip hop in articles. Sromero78 (talk) 23:03, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

  • There's actually a source for both of his albums that describe the project as pop punk, as well as a source that call awful things and the brightside pop punk. Shouldn't that be good enough? Sromero78 (talk) 10:11, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

The article states he "claimed to have Swedish citizenship", I thought this was well known as a fact, not just a 'claim' - https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DOx7NKpXcAMSyKX.jpg, that was why he was able to stay in London for an extended period of a time to record his first album COWYS, due to his EU passport. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C5:74F:5600:B54B:98AC:2536:9837 (talk) 21:27, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

Change the word 'opiate' to 'opioid' in the Death section. The medications listed ARE NOT opiates, which would be naturally occurring, i.e. morphine, opium, codeine... basically things from the poppy plant.

Misleading information on Peep's health

The source after mentioning that Lil Peep had bipolar disorder never states that he had bipolar disorder, but was bisexual. Lil peep never stated that he had bipolar disorder, but he did talk about anxiety, depression, and addiction. His passing

When you talk about his death say it was Xanax laced with Fentanyl because that’s what happened. Kwclark005 (talk) 17:00, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

The name "Lil Peep"

He was quoted saying "My mom has been calling me Peep my whole life, that's how I got the name. I don't know why… She tells me I look like a "little peep" but I don't really know what a "peep" is."

She probably named him after "Lille Pip", a character in the eponymous series of children books by Sid Roland, quite popular in Sweden with his mother's generation. They were even translated into Icelandic, I read them in the late 60's, early 70's. EliasHalldor (talk) 11:26, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

Title. When I was translating the wikipage, i found this. Is this a minor error? Blankboy2002 (talk) 03:39, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

I think by "fka" they meant "formerly known as". Either way, it seems he mostly is just referred to as "Bexey" throughout Wikipedia and "Bexey Swan" wasn't in the source, so I just took it out instead. Volteer1 (talk) 04:33, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

See my comment a little further down, but yes please do not change his nationality from American to Swedish or Swedish-American unless a strong source can be provided, but also do not remove content about his Swedish roots that have been sourced. --TylerBurden (talk) 00:12, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Nationality?

What is his nationality? Is it American, or is it Swedish? Is there another website on his bio?

Because I googled him, and the google infobox (picking info from the head info on the wiki article) said he was American. And when I googled his nationality, it said he was Swedish.

He's born in the Pennsylvania to his Swedish father and American mother! And his Birth name is Gustav Elijah Åhr! So I don't know what his exact nationality actually is!

I feel like editing the infobox adding Nationality, but it might get reverted, so I'll just leave it. Xfhxzf (talk) 03:39, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

I have no idea where google graph stuff comes from, bar what they grab from Wikipedia. See directly above though – I just took out some of the Swedish stuff because all we had for it was a tweet of his, so that might've effected Google in some capacity. His nationality probably only makes sense as American given he was born there and lived there his whole life. He might be a citizen of Sweden, though – I mean he said so on twitter, but I can't find anything but that one tweet about it. ‑‑Volteer1 (talk) 12:39, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Nationality was American, he was possibly actually a Swedish citizen as well, aside from his own claim that he was there is a photo of Åhr's seemingly legitimate Swedish ID. But I agree that unless someone can dig up some indisputable source that he had dual citizenship, his nationality should be kept as only American. For now I have added that he is simply of Swedish descent through his father. --TylerBurden (talk) 00:12, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Peeps family wealth

I would not say that Gus was affluent. They weren’t poor but they weren’t rolling in money. Just because Liza and his father went to Harvard means nothing. His father was out of the picture and teachers don’t exactly make the best money. Ottergoddess (talk) 14:18, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

I agree, affluent doesn't seem accurate as I can find no sources about him coming from a wealthy background. He wasn't living in poverty but his family hardly seemed significantly wealthy. --TylerBurden (talk) 05:24, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Requesting the change of his Resting Place.

So, his Resting Place says that his ashes are buried in his grandfathers garden, this however isn't the case. On the ( r/lilpeep ) official reddit, his mom has commented under a post that asks where he is buried, she states that she wanted to bury him there, however she decided against it because she was worried someone would buy the house and dig them up, and other things.

She said, I quote: "Nope. He was cremated but he is not on the garden. When I die, he will be buried with me. I have my plot bought—top of a hill. Gus will face west and I will have his back—facing East." "The fact is that I WAS going to put Gus’s ashes in dads yard. But then I couldn’t do it. Couldn’t put him in the ground just couldn’t. And I realized that dad won’t always be there and what if some person buys the house one day and digs everything up. That horrified me. So I realized only a grave cannot be messed with. So he is going in with me—and Taz, I hope. Gotta figure that one out because dogs are not always allowed in people cemeteries."

Lil Peep is a Swedish American, final proof with direct reference to the Swedish authorities

Gustav Elijah Åhr had a fully Swedish name and has said on his own Twitter that he had Swedish citizenship. There is also a picture of his Swedish ID card proving his statement to be true. Furthermore to finalize the evidence for his Swedish citizenship by Swedish law any child with at least 1 Swedish parent will automatically get Swedish citizenship. I have checked with both Skatteverket (the Swedish tax agency) as well as the Swedish Migration Agency on the matter and since his father was born in Sweden he automatically received his Swedish citizenship at birth. You can read about the topic of Swedish law and his Swedish citizenship on the Swedish Migration Agency. It clearly states that any child with at least 1 Swedish parent will automatically get their Swedish Citizenship. No matter if they're born in Sweden or abroad.

This should put to rest the conversation on Lil Peep being a Swedish American or not. His full name is Swedish, his dad is Swedish and one of his citizenships is Swedish, making Gustav's own statement truthful. Please do not edit war further on this topic as doing so would be going against evidence.

Quote from the source "Swedish at birth if one of the parents is a Swedish citizen A child will become a Swedish citizen at birth, no matter where they are born as long as one of the parents is a Swedish citizen.

A child is always given Swedish citizenship if

one of the parents is a Swedish citizen. It does not matter if the child is born in Sweden or abroad a deceased parent to the child was a Swedish citizen upon their death."

Ref 148 seems to be permanently dead

I did some research and it looks like the post was removed for some reason. The post was made around early August 2017, going by the URL (Instagram links are chronological.) I can't find any archives of the original either. I might try contacting the Gustav Åhr estate, but that may prove fruitless since the account was under the control of Åhr at the time. Should/can anything be done about this? I am still new to Wikipedia so I am not completely familiar with the procedure. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PeanutButterPopcorn (talkcontribs) 02:53, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

"American"

if he's written as "American" then I guess Timothée Chalamet should be "French-American"? Peep had Swedish citizenship through his father but he didn't speak the language nor did he ever lived there. Meanwhile, Chalamet (also whose father is French) speaks fluent French, spent summers there while growing up & holds French citizenship too. What I'm saying is that the "Swedish" part is irrelevant & redundant since this is just another case of dual citizenship — Preceding unsigned comment added by Producer Richter (talkcontribs) 05:26, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

This is a common but moot argument on Wikipedia, other articles are other articles and what is written there is what is decided by the editors working on it. By all means go and change the Chalamet article if you can gain consensus for it, some articles include both nationalities and some don't, that's just the way it works. --TylerBurden (talk) 05:40, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

"Growing up, Åhr's father was absent,[19] with his parents divorcing formally when Åhr was 14.[20] He attended Lindell Elementary School, where he was placed into the gifted and talented program, and Long Beach High School in Lido Beach, New York, where he was often absent but received good grades[21] and made the dean's list.[22] He later took online courses to earn his high school diploma.[23] Shortly thereafter, he began posting his music on YouTube and SoundCloud."

TO:

"Growing up, Åhr's father was absent,[19] with his parents divorcing formally when Åhr was 14, and his father moving out of the family home at age 15 [158]. Following his parents' split, he moved with his mother and older brother to 34 E Walnut St in Long Beach, New York where he would eventually record Lil Peep Part One, Feelz, Vertigo, (most of) California Girls, Garden, In the Bedroom I Confess, Mall Music, Romeo's Regrets, and several tracks that were released as singles, including Star Shopping [158].

Åhr attended Lindell Elementary School, located just across the street from his family's first apartment in Long Beach [158]. Just a few days into Gus's kindergarten year, the September 11 attacks took place, with smoke plumes clearly visible from Åhr's kindergarten classroom [158]. In third grade, Gus was placed into Long Beach's gifted and talented program [158]. Later, in middle school, he was placed in accelerated classes. Åhr attended Long Beach High School in Lido Beach, New York, which was directly impacted by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 causing it to close down for a few weeks [158]. When the school reopened, the faculty and administrators were more relaxed on the students, leading Gus to enjoy his junior year of high school significantly more than the rest [158].

When Gus returned to school the following year as a senior, there was new administration that was unfamiliar with the student body and culture [158]. An exhausted Åhr was ready to drop out, but was assisted by a teacher named Maria Hartmann to finish school [158]. With the help of two other teachers whom Gus knew and trusted named Mr. Balsamo and Mr. Petschauer, Åhr finished high school by completing his last two necessary courses, English and Social Studies. He graduated six months early in the January of 2014 [158].

Later that January, Gus was accepted into the State University of New York at Old Westbury, but declined to attend and instead enrolled as an out of state student at Glendale Community College (California) in Pasadena, California [158]. There, he was able to enroll in one class with a middle school friend called Brennan Savage, which he ultimately dropped [158]. After his first semester at GCC, Gus decided to drop out and instead enroll at Nassau Community College [158]. In the fall of 2015, Åhr was taking four classes online (two business classes, one criminal justice class, and one art history class) in which he earned three As and one B [158].

It was during Gus's only full-time semester at NCC that he made the Dean's list [158]. However, instead of enrolling in a second term, Gus decided drop out and begin performing with Schemaposse [158]. By the end of 2015 he had already completed a large body of work in his bedroom at 34 E Walnut St. while attending school full-time [158]."
