Hello! I'll be taking a look at this article for the January 2022 GAN backlog drive. If you haven't already signed up, please feel free to join in! Although QPQ is not required, if you're feeling generous, I also have a list of GA nominations of my own right here.

Infobox and lede[edit]

Early life[edit]

  • One of my good friends lives in Media, it's a cute place
  • Link "scout" here
  • Pipe "bonus contract" to signing bonus

Career[edit]

Kansas City / Oakland Athletics[edit]

  • Link the first instance of complete game
  • "two months to go" → "two months remaining"
  • The sentence about his record in Dallas should probably use the phrase run support somewhere; apologies for being vague
  • "before the [1965] season" is repeated twice in one sentence
  • Link the first instance of spring training (in 1966)
  • Link first instance of "rotation" (in 1967) to starting rotation
  • Link first instance of "doubleheader" to Doubleheader (baseball)
  • "had been playing little pranks"
  • "when talking to a pregnant woman" → "when speaking to a pregnant woman"
  • Delink "Washington Senators" in the 1967 section, as it's linked above
  • ""a menace to the sport."" → ""a menace to the sport"." per MOS:LQ
  • I refuse to believe "Rollie Fingers" is a real name belonging to a real person

Milwaukee Brewers[edit]

  • "for" → "in exchange for" just to better separate the names
  • "to not report" → "not to report" (I hear my mother telling me not to split my infinitives)

Boston Red Sox[edit]

  • Good

St. Louis Cardinals[edit]

  • I don't love that this section is just titled "Cardinals" when it also mentions that he was with the Athletics' Triple-A team, but I don't know how I'd rephrase, as it seems disingenuous to add "Athletics" when he only played for their affiliate
    • One of those imperfect section headings, I agree. I think the justification for keeping it is (A) adding in that he also played for the A's AAA team would be too long and (B) his appearance with the MLB Cardinals is more notable than his minor league performance that season. Sanfranciscogiants17 (talk) 18:28, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Atlanta Braves[edit]

  • pitching a scoreless 10th and 11th innings singular/plural agreement with "a" vs. plural "innings"

Career statistics, pitching style[edit]

  • "win/loss record' → "win-loss record"
  • "1284" → "1,284" and "1205" → "1,205"; while MOS:DIGITS allows for four-digit numerals to include or exclude the comma, as a person with a numerical learning disability, the comma helps me not jumble up the numbers
    • I like the commas better as well. Probably didn't have them in before because this line was probably already there. Added them in. Sanfranciscogiants17 (talk) 18:30, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • "changeup in 1966" → "changeup that same year"

Personal life[edit]

  • "the Churchill Downs"

References[edit]

  • [18] "Find out who holds the record ..." is missing a work

General comments[edit]

  • Images are properly licensed and relevant
  • No stability concerns in the revision history
  • Copyvio detector is currently refusing to load, so I'll check this later

Whew, been a minute! Life decided to throw everything and a half at me the past couple months. In any case, I think this is one of your better efforts (at least of what I've read) and all my comments are quite minor; putting on hold now. As always, ping me with questions and let me know when you're finished! — GhostRiver 17:34, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for making those changes. Earwig score seems inflated because there are really only a couple of direct quotes used, so I'm happy to pass this! — GhostRiver 16:46, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
