In the news discussion[edit]

{{ITN note|Leticia Lee|date=16 December 2020}} @Citobun: I think we need to be extremely careful, especially in the context of linking this from the main page, not to appear to place the subject's opinions in Wikipedia's voice, even on a quick skim read. I am extremely uncomfortable with the text that you've restored; perhaps you can come up with some different formulation? Espresso Addict (talk) 09:32, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If someone read this as Wikipedia making a homophobic statement, I think it would be a grammatical misunderstanding on their part. I checked the original source (SCMP) to see if it could be worded differently but it uses the same phrasing. I can see your point but I am also not sure how to reword it without losing the meaning. @Citobun: It's a difficult balance -- perhaps use a quotation? Espresso Addict (talk) 03:11, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Espresso Addict: Good thinking. I added quotation marks. Citobun (talk) 03:46, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
