Date of birth[edit]

Need date of birth. Badagnani (talk) 02:44, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"I was born in 1939" - Weiner, Lee (2020). Conspiracy To Riot. Cleveland, Ohio: Belt Publishing. p. 13. ISBN 978-1-948742-68-9. Beccaynr (talk) 01:56, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request[edit]

  • Specific text to be added or removed: 1938/1939 birth year could be removed ((born {{birth based on age as of date|81|2020|10|16|noage=1|mos=1}})<ref name="Irvy 2020"/>); 1938/1939 is also stated in infobox; specific birth year could be added to Early life and education section, e.g. the first sentence could be adjusted to "Weiner was born in 1939 and raised on the South Side of Chicago."
  • Reason for the change: specific birth year is available from memoir
  • Reference supporting change: Weiner, Lee (2020). Conspiracy To Riot. Cleveland, Ohio: Belt Publishing. p. 13. ISBN 978-1-948742-68-9. I was born in 1939 The memoir also discusses being raised on the South Side at pp. 13 - 14, 20, and attending South Shore High School (Chicago) at 22 - 23, 26.

Have limited his birth year to 1939, thanks for the update. Randy Kryn (talk) 22:27, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thank you and I apologize for my delayed reply - I am wondering if the citation can be added,[1]: 13  because otherwise, the birth year does not seem fully cited by the current source in the article. I am also wondering if the first sentence in the body could be adjusted to be more like a typical BLP e.g. "Weiner was born in 1939 and raised on the South Side of Chicago." Then the first sentence about him being the 'only member of the Chicago Seven from Chicago' could be moved - please also note the Chicago Tribune (Borrelli) cite for that content also states "He grew up on the South Shore." [1] If the memoir is sufficient to support including content about his attendance at South Shore High School, that could be included as well. Thank you. Beccaynr (talk) 01:43, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Here is an example:

Lee Weiner was born in 1939 and raised on the South Side of Chicago.[1]: 13–14, 20 [2] He attended South Shore High School in Chicago.[1]: 22–23, 26

Weiner is the only member of the Chicago Seven from Chicago.[2] When the trial of the Chicago Seven began in September 1969...

  • Also, per MOS:LEAD, the recent addition by Ryme071 of "He is the last surviving member of the Chicago 7" to the lead does not appear supported by the article content and references. ✅  Edit request partially implemented

  1. The reference requested for the year of birth could not be added, because the page numbers given with the reference do not align in the two separate areas of your proposal where the {{rp}} template exists. The first instance {{rp|13}} and the second instance {{rp|13-14,20}} do not align.
  2. Pre-university education, including elementary and high school, are not usually mentioned unless particularly relevant.  Spintendo  03:02, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request[edit]

Thank you Spintendo - I also have a question about the references not aligning - the year of birth is on p. 13, and the other pages also support content about being raised on the South Side. Could the references be split to make it more clear? e.g.

Lee Weiner was born in 1939[1]: 13  and raised on the South Side of Chicago.[1]: 13–14, 20 [2]

As to high school, it seems potentially relevant for this article to be added to the list at the Notable alumni section at South Shore High School (Chicago). Cheers, Beccaynr (talk) 03:47, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've reopened the edit request to provide further information, ask for clarification, and offer an alternative proposal, including because the current source cited in this article does not support the birth year. Thank you, Beccaynr (talk) 01:28, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

✅ Partially implemented

  1. Thank you for clarifying the page numbers for the date of birth and the location where he was raised. Those have been added to the article.
  2. That he may have been an alumni of the school is germane to the school's article, but it's not of particular relevance here. In any event, it's unclear from the provided source whether he graduated from the high school, which would make him alumni, as it states only that he 'attended' the high school.

Thank you Spintendo! I appreciate the clarification and the implementation of the edits. I can check the source for information about graduation, and I appreciate the guidance on how the high school article could be where to add that content.
