Members[edit]

I added Julie Leahy to the members list as she was a member for many years, and was their featured vocalist as well. I don't think she's still with the band, so if anyone can provide a year in which she left, please do. 23skidoo 21:28, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Irish or Scottish?[edit]

I always thought, from the Celtic sound of their music, that they were from Nova Scotia or PEI. But they're from Ontario? Are they of Irish or Scottish heritage and is their repertoire primarily Celtic or Celto-Canadian, as with the Cape Breton music? Badagnani 07:12, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]


Homemade and the self-titled releases[edit]

I can confirm the existence of Homemade, which was pressed by Foreign Media Music (#5063). I purchased a copy at Indigo Books and Music in Calgary. I sent Leahy's management an e-mail asking about it and they said it was a planned release that for licensing reasons was pulled from stores. Obviously I got a straggler; I chose not to include this information in the article as it needs a better source than an e-mail exchange. In addition, it should be acknowledged that the group released at least 3 albums (possibly as many as 5) in the 1980s as "The Leahy Family". I purchased two of them at concerts and a third at A&B Sound in Vancouver, the latter suggesting that some of the releases had some distribution in Canada. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a comprehensive list of the group's early releases and their official website doesn't reference these early recordings, which to my knowledge were all titled The Leahy Family (sort of like how most of Peter Gabriel's early albums were simply self-titled), except for a Christmas release. 68.146.41.17 19:31, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced material removed[edit]

I removed the material about the group being on Virgin Records and also the part about the group being the subject of an Academy Award winning student film in 1985. The reference for the Academy Award was just a link to a college press release. I removed the reference as well, because it does not qualify as a source. I looked up the CD's on Amazon and found that they were not released by Virgin records. They were released by two independent labels, Foreign Media Group and Narada. I also removed the trivial information about spouses and the piano teacher. This is a folk band. The piano teacher is not relevant. I also removed the reference link to the piano teacher's website. A teacher's website is hardly a reference. I will try to find some coverage on this group by major news organizations. It has no references at all. Juri Koll (talk) 22:02, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Eric444: Amazon is right about Narada Music being the record label, however you are right as well. I did a google search of Narada Music. Their website has Leahy listed as one of their recording acts. I also did a google search of Virgin Records Canada. EMI Music Canada has Leahy listed under pop artists and EMI owns Virgin. Narada, Virgin and EMI are all involved with either recording or distribution. It's ok to list the label as Virgin Records. Juri Koll (talk) 18:27, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Restored material removed by Juri Koll[edit]

Information regarding the Academy Award IS relevant, and is easily verified by checking the records of the Academy Awards. Also relevant is the marriage of two of the Leahy brothers to well-known artists in their field. Information regarding their piano teacher is relevant, since Fredrick Pritchard not only continues to teach Erin Leahy, but has served as a Guest Piano Instructor at the Leahy Music Camp for the past three years. Juri, if information regarding Erin Leahy's piano teacher is irrelevant, then the same must be said of Richard Kastle's teachers. Any reference to his teachers should be removed from the Richard Kastle article. Prof.rick 17:26, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Please help find references for this article[edit]

  • OK, I added a couple of references. Now there at least are some instead of an empty ==References== section. Juri, it took me less than a minute in Google to find the reference on the Academy Award's website. Ditto for the Honorary Doctorates on the Trent University website -- it would've been way more efficient for you to just add the reference than to post here asking for someone to verify and then removing content. Please don't construe this as an attack on you, since that's not my intention -- I'm just sayin' you could've better utilized your (and thus my) time.Mojoworker (talk) 21:23, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
