(old)[edit]

lauren child is an English author who writes and illustrates her own books. My personal favorites are the Clarice Bean books bu t is most well known for her Charlie and lola books. They have just become a TV show. To learn more about lauren and her books go to [[1]] her official website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.54.11.156 (talkcontribs) 21:40, 19 September 2006‎ (UTC)[reply]

Resolved

I have placed a "proposed deletion" template on Clarice Bean because the text doesn't show that the character is notable enough to have her own article. You can read about some of the criteria at Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Notability (fiction). If you disagree, you can remove the template and show that the character is notable. Thanks. --Reuben (talk) 20:04, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification of Personal Details?[edit]

It says she lives in London and Los Angeles with a "new york barrister". Someone earlier already disputed the existence of 'barrister' in the U.S. Also: if her husband is new-york based why would she be living in Los Angeles? It's all a bit muddly this bit and isn't informative at all. Also, isn't it a bit depressing that an artist should be living with a barrister in any circumstances?...... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.141.82.185 (talk) 09:01, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Medal longlists[edit]

While providing more specific references to the CILIP Carnegie and Greenaway Medals website, I have deleted these four listings as not notable "Awards and honours".[for all: ref name=prCILIP/]

  • 2002 Utterly Me, Clarice Bean made the Carnegie Medal in Literature longlist
  • 2003 I Am Too Absolutely Small for School, Greenaway longlist
  • 2004 Hubert Horatio Bartle Bobton-Trent, Greenaway longlist
  • 2005 The Princess and the Pea, Greenaway longlist

Evidently the so-called longlists are lists of nominations. The annual collections of press releases show no honours prior to the shortlists (usually May). I checked Carnegie "Nominations for 2002" and Greenaway "Nominations for 2005" and found that each is a list of 39 books and "we are still checking the eligibility of these titles".

At the same time I have added mention of the Carnegie nomination in prose: "... her first children's novel, Utterly Me, Clarice Bean, one of 39 books nominated by the librarians for the Carnegie Medal in Literature". Most of her books are and all previously were picture books, as I understand "first novel". This nomination shows that she promptly attained some success (short of honours) in a new field. --P64 (talk) 17:59, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ruby Redfort[edit]

At Clarice Bean series, while improving its CILIP medal coverage (above), I have rearranged Ruby Redfort and Hitch into a new section and added this to the lead:

(quote) A spin-off "Ruby Redfort series" was inaugurated in 2011, which the US publisher called a "six-book middlegrade fiction series" in advance.[ref name=candlewick]
(reference) "Candlewick Press sign Lauren Child's Ruby Redfort series from Harper Collins UK". Press release 23 March 2010. Candlewick Press. Retrieved 2012-05-19.

That press release may be useful here and Clarice Bean series needs {{update}} by someone who knows something about it. --P64 (talk) 19:16, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I added the 6th book to the Ruby Redfort Series section. The book hasn't come out yet so there is no single day specific release date, so I will update it when it is announced.YellowLE333 (talk) 22:52, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Birth data[edit]

External link ISFDB gives:[2]

  • Birthplace: Marlborough, Wiltshire, England
  • Birthdate: 29 November 1965

Among three external links that ISFDB provides, its source for birth data cannot be the current version of her official website, which is silent, or her British Council page, which gives only the conflicting year 1967. (Those are two more External links here.) ISFDB also lists us, this biography, which does not now give a birth date or place.

I added the data from ISFDB to template {{Persondata}} only, so they do not appear for readers, and I have second thoughts about the template. Child is barely in ISFDB, credited with artwork for one book in the database. --P64 (talk) 20:20, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just now I fixed the crucial eddress for Child at ISFDB (sorry about that) and revised this note for clarity at the same time. --P64 (talk) 22:01, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
7 August 2013 User:Lucky12588 inserted both the photo portrait and infobox birthplace "London United Kingdom".[3] The file page says "7 August 2013 (original upload date) // Source Own work"
3 June 2013 User:184.32.218.154 inserted "she grew up in Marlborough,Wiltshire, United Kingdom."[4]
British Council says she grew up in Marlborough, Wiltshire.[5] User 184 may have another source. The Ext link was dead five days later when I fixed it, introducing template {british council}.

In this TES interview Child clearly states she was born in "a tiny Berkshire village," and this is circumstantially corroborated with her as the second of three sisters with births registered in either Reading or Wokingham, both in Berkshire. I have changed the page accordingly. Nick Cooper (talk)
