Progression[edit]

  • Version of the article when originally reviewed: [1]
  • Version of the article when review was closed: [2]

Initial comments[edit]

  • Repetitive prose here: "The Japanese had invaded Bougainville in early 1942, and had established several airfields on the island, with key bases being established.." (established x 2)
  • Perhaps consider wikilinking Indirect approach.
  • Wikilink squad?
  • This seems a little tautological: "...escorted by an escort screen...". Perhaps consider rewording a little?
  • "...including several cruisers and destroyers...", should there be a comma here?
  • Wikilink Paramarines?
  • "After the transports arrived at the transport area off Empress August Bay, at 07:10 hours on 1 November, the first wave disembarked from the transports..." ("from the transports" seems a little redundant here.
  • Typo here: "The Japanese airbases at Kahili and Kieta on the Bougainville..."
  • Typo here: "The cut supply roads through the jungle."
  • I wonder if the footnote should be referenced?
  • A couple of books are missing isbns / oclcs which you might consider adding. Anotherclown (talk) 11:11, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Morison, Samuel Eliot (1958) Breaking the Bismarcks Barrier is missing publication location. Anotherclown (talk) 12:15, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks for taking a look, and the edits. I think I've fixed all of these now. These are my edits: [3]. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 08:13, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
      • Sorted. More comments to follow in detailed review. Anotherclown (talk) 08:16, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Technical review[edit]

  • Citations: the citation check tool reveals a few minor issues with reference consolidation:
    • Morison 1958, p. 280 Multiple references contain the same content
    • Morison 1958, p. 298 Multiple references contain the same content
    • Rentz 1946, p. 38 Multiple references contain the same content
  • Disambiguations: no dabs - [4] (no action req'd)
  • Linkrot: No dead links - [5] (no action req'd).
  • Alt text: Images lack alt text so you might consider adding it - [6] (suggestion only, not a GA req)
  • Copyright violations: The Earwig Tool reveals no issues with copyright violations or close paraphrasing [7] (no action req'd).
  • Duplicate links: no duplicate links to be removed. Anotherclown (talk) 08:16, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Criteria[edit]

  • It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
    • The prose looks fairly good to me, but I'll read over it again once any changes / additions are made.
    • No major MOS issues that I could see.
  • It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
    • No issues. Article is well referenced and looks to reflect the sources available.
  • It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
    • Most major aspects of the topic seem to be covered that I could see.
    • There is a little on Long The Six Years War (1973) p. 344 that might be relevant: "The operation against Bougainville was commanded by General Vandergrift, who decided to land the 3rd Marine Division at Torokina in Empress Augusta Bay on the uninviting west coast so far away from the Japanese bases that the American staffs estimated that it would take three months for the enemy to organise a full-scale counter-attack... There were only about 300 Japanese with mortars and one field gun in the Torokina area, but they succeeded in creating confusion amoung the American marines when they landed on 1st November. 'Boats were disable, command of the assault wave broke down, several dozen casualties were suffered, and the men went ashore in a mixture of units. Tactical control by higher echelons was impossible, but the marines knew what to do. Rifle groups were quickly formed and the Japanese were dug from their crude pill-boxes."
    • Also here in Long (still p. 344): "...and when Major-General Oscar W. Griswold of the XIV US Corps took over on 15th December the perimeter was about fifteen miles long and extended about five miles inland at its widest point."
      • Thanks, I've added something on the above points now with these edits: [8]. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 09:05, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Article is focused and doesn't go into unnecessary detail.
  • It follows the neutral point of view policy.
a (fair representation): b (all significant views):
    • No POV issues.
    • All significant views are covered.
  • It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
    • No issues.
  • It contains images, where possible, to illustrate the topic.
a (tagged and captioned): b (Is illustrated with appropriate images): c (non-free images have fair use rationales): d public domain pictures appropriately demonstrate why they are public domain:
    • Images are appropriate for article, are all PD, and seem to have the req'd documentation.
    • Captions look ok.
  • Overall:
    a Pass/Fail:
    • Only a couple of minor points above to address / discuss, otherwise this looks in good shape to me. Anotherclown (talk) 08:39, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
