Kontor = Office?[edit]

Yeah, it is in all Scandinavian languages, so I assumed it was German as well. The Scandinavian word is, with high likelyhood, probably a borrowing from Middle Low German, to begin with. 惑乱分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * (talk) 13:58, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Kontor" is also used in German as a traditional term for an office of shipowners. In (the Free and Hanseatic city of) Hamburg, the term "Kontor" is still very present in the city since shipowners, trading companies, and very traditional business use it to mark their offices. --85.182.85.72 (talk) 13:06, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The only remaining Kontor building?[edit]

There seems to be a discrepancy here, on the one hand 'only the Bergen Kontor has survived until the present day' while on the other 'The Hanseatic Warehouse in King's Lynn, England, survives'. Which is correct? --Evenmadderjon (talk) 10:32, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Any idea what kind of hierarchy was there in Hanseatic Kontor and what titles did they use?

Surname[edit]

Kontor is also a surname in Transylvania. Should that be added? Presumably the two are related. If nobody thinks otherwise, I'll add that.
