Spelling of "Kaffa" in Arabic or other languages[edit]

It is suggested that the Arabic word for coffee, qahwah, is derived from the place name Kaffa. Can anybody provide spellings of this place name in Arabic or any other languages? I am interested to know the original sounds in languages used in this place sink Arabic has both a "k" and a "q". Of course Ethiopian languages probably also have both sounds that could well make it into English only as "k". — Hippietrail 11:04, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

religion in infobox[edit]

I have changed the infobox statement of religion to "officially Christianity" from "nominally Christanity" as the latter is less precise. Kaffa was Christian to the extent the state govt adopted that religion (apart of course from the actual adherents). Also I have changed "with traditional religion" to "Islam, animism". "traditional religion," used in contradistinction to Christianity, is misapplied in the context of Ethiopia or the horn, where Christianity/Abrahamic religions are as old as most other identified religions. Looking through the references, animistic practices and Islam are mentioned (besides Christianity) as being practiced among the Kaffa.Snarfblaat (talk) 00:25, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
