Untitled[edit]

Can somebody verify my passage on "Never cross the King"? Also, I do not know which King William King William St. is named after. Some photos would be good. I'll take care of it if I remember next time I travel to the city. --Avochelm 10:23, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I've added a photo I uploaded some time ago. More would still be nice. I can't say I've ever heard of the "never cross the King" thing before, but it sounds as though it might be view taken by many. From my readings on Adelaide, my understanding that the naming of streets in Adelaide was reached by compromise - many of the founders were posturing to have streets named after them, and Hindmarsh demanded to have the last say. Actually in one of the books I've read, there was a fair bit on Adelaide streets. When I'm in my mid-year break, I'll attempt to expand a little. --

A quick google for the phrase results in nothing, and what about North & South Terrace? both 'Cross the King'--Oli

Watching "Postcards" the other day, they mentioned the "Cross the King" thing, saying "a commoner's name wasn;t allowed to cross the King" or something along those lines. It's a harmless legend in any case.--

There is a road and a street[edit]

Frome and King William are in two parts. North of North Terrace they are a road and south of that they are a street. This article has the wrong picture (it shows the road) and the text is about things on the road. Softgrow 11:17, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
